Hi all...
I have finally got Ozi Explorer up and running in the "moving map" mode, using Natmap Raster Premium. When I start the moving map mode it starts with the 250k Raster map as I want, but after a few seconds it automatically changes to the Landsat satellite image mosaic. Can anyone suggest what I have done wrong ?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Neil

Neil, you have to turn off 'search for more detailed maps'. It's the icon at the top right of the screen with a map and a small + sign. It's also an option under configuration, moving maps.

MM is looking for a more detailed map after a certain interval (this can be set in the "configuration" settings) and will check either the current directory/sub-directory or just the one folder, depending on your settings.

In the moving map control box, there are 2 buttons that you should play with....

- "Check for more detailed map" (4th button, top left). I take it this is checked and the Landsat is a higher resolution (less metres per pixel) than the 250k. Deselecting this will stop the swapping of maps.

- "Moving Map looks for maps in only the current folder of the currently loaded map" (5th button, top left). Does what is says :-) Make sure this box is depressed to only check the 250k files. Depending where/how your file structure is arranged, it may help by moving the files into seperate sections.

Folr more info, push the "?" in any area to access the help file, which is an excellent source of information.......

Hi Andrew ,
I want to get a "state of the art" mapping system in my landcruiser . After seeing three systems at work during my last trip , I am confused because each seemed to be using different hardware set-ups .
I have heard that you can buy a special "in car computer" that will go under your seat and is hooked up to the all the time so that you just flick a switch and on comes the computer and your maps ? This is hooked up to a screen mounted on your dashboard . Is this something I have dreamed about and is not really posible or do things like this exist ?
If they do exist , do you know anyone in Sydney who could sell and install such a system ? They would have to get it all going including installing the software , because I am a cretin at such things .
Thanks ,
Willie .

Hi All, seeing as we're talking about OziExplorer (ahem!). I have a loaded a waypoint file with the location of speed cameras for the east coast and I'm trying to upload these into my garmin etrex legend with little success (Grrrr!). The Garmin can store up to 500 waypoints, but they're not coming in. Ozi goes through the motions of uploading (fine) but they don't appear. I can load them 1 by 1 but as it does, it deletes 1 and displays the other (and so on). It's driving me bonkers!!!! I don't have a lappy, just the garmin. Any help would be appreciated :o) Andrew.

Otherwise, it depends on the file you have. It may not be a simple waypoint file.

It could be a POI file, or have all the waypoints with the same name, etc

Post the first 1/2 dozen lines of the text file (i assume) and it will tell us what it is.

Hope that helps

LOL Nice one.... I guess YOU'VE always breaked down to 60 from 100 right at the signpost eh! Ok, I'll make it a bit simpler - "My waypoints won't load to my Garmin - any ideas" ;o)

You beat me before i replied (DOH!).....

All the files appear great in Ozi from the wpt file. I then select them from the waypoint list and send them to the garmin and all is well. The garmin even tells me 'completed', but they don't appear! I'll check the different files/points in the garmin:-

As suggested it may be that some of the points have the same name - this most certainly causes a problem when uploading to a Magellan GPS

I had the same problem.

Ozi looks for *.map files which tells it which maps you have set up. I wanted to use both the Natmap raster DVD and the UBD City Streets maps and turning off "Check for More Detailed Map" would mean not changing to the city maps when I approach Adelaide.

The .map files are stored by default in :

C:\Program Files\OziExplorer\Maps

You can either delete the .map file for the maps you don't wish Ozi to look for, or simply rename them with a different extension so that you can use them again if you want to at some future time.

I simply deleted the landsat .map file and all the other 250k files to stop it asking to change disks all the time.

Hope this helps

If you put them all on the hard disk you don't have to change disks.

Then you can either tell it to stay in the one directory or not look for more detailed maps.

I have the UBD and Natmap 250k on the HD, but I still use the others occasionally for planning so it is handy to have the map files there.
