How long does the chemical in the bottom
tank last? What I am getting at is that if its only been used a couple of times is it ok to leave it for a few weeks and use again or should it be emptied when stored for more than a few days?

Hi there Brew69, I always empty
mine when I'v finished with it, unless I'm using it on a daily basis, then it will need emptying any way as it fills up. I dont want to take a risk of sh@t floating around in the back of my hilux or the camper trailer for that matter, just incase it sprung a leak, for the sake of a couple of $$ for the green crap that you put in the bottom
tank, the rinse
tank with the nice pink smelly stuff I will leave in that, as if it leaks every thing will be nice and deoderised, maybe a tad wet, If I have to refill the
toilet on our last day of a trip and I know it will be a straight trip home I will only fill the flush
tank about a quarter so Im not wasting as much deoderiser and
water, then when I get home I give the whole thing a good wash out leaving the vents and so
forth open so it will air out then I store away till next time. I have never had a problem with any smells in any way by doing it this way. As far as how long it would last in the
tank I dont know but I dont want that crap sitting around as its cancer causing, full of formaldahyde I even wear plastic gloves when handling this stuff, Regards Steve M

Stephen, I have always been with you on the potential spillage so right from the start I containerised it. It sits in it's own box with the chemical spares too,
toilet paper in a plastic bag and hand wipes. Any spillage will be minimised.
Did hear years ago about the guy who had his portapotty on the roof bars and the top came off spilling the contents over the car. Was it an outback or urban myth?

Brew
We changed this year to using the new environmentally friendly stuff that comes from a company in
Brisbane. It works really
well and can stay in the loo long term. We picked it up at the Wandin show. If you're interested, I'll check on the name tonight.

I think you may be talking about BioMagic... Same chemical for top and bottom tanks. Good stuff

You need to follow their instructions and cleanse the
tank of any chemical residues before using bio-magic. Some people reeckon it is wonderful and some say it is not as good as the chemical. Main advantage, it is envorinmentally safe to empty it anywhere (but don't make it obvious as others seeing you don't know it is chemical free), without harming the environment. We've yet to make the change, but generally use the shovel not the chemical anyway.

We make our own mix from a recipe that was posted on here. Answer number 3. About 100ml in the bottom
tank and a splash in the top.
We always empty as soon as we get home, give it a good hose out an leave all hatches open to air it.

If you are using a home made recipe using Pine-O-Clean it shouldn't be emptied into a septic system. Kills the "good" germs and wrecks the septic system.
