hi have a 100 series cruiser and I would like to pull the cd player out and put in a cd player with a USB port in so I can store music on an ipod or storage device and plug it in so I don’t have to carry cds. Just like a starter on how the player is fixed in and to start pulling it out with out making a mess. Also if anyone knows where I can get hold of a wiring diagram because I would like to install a cb while I am at it in the same hole. I don’t know if any one else has the same problem but a mate has an 80 series and also
mine skip when we go on rough roads hence try something different dags

Alternative is an FM transmitter with a USB input that plugs into your ciggy lighter.
Try Jaycar - around $50.00

The CD player in my 80 series has just cacked it and I have just purchased an Ipod type thing and a transmitter but have not installed it yet. I hope that it all works OK. I can also transfer it between my cars.

There is an air vent each side of the centre (radio/heater) unit. These are held in by clips. Use a cloth covered (to protect the trim) lever/screwdriver. Start at the top of the vent and lever it out. The whole centre unit is held in by two bolts on each side, inside the vent apertures. Good luck. I was fearful of
mine when I did this cos a fair bit of leverage is needed. The strongest clips seem to be the top and bottom ones.

I had one of those FM transmitter gizmo's and it was crap. so I bought a radio with SD and USB ports , fantastic for 3 weeks then it went crap too [US Audio] probably made in China and after the 3rd warranty set I decided to write off the $199 and got a JVC [made in Japan] with a USB port and it is really good , and I mean really good in the fact it works and performs fantastic,$275 at Midland WA and the reproduction of WMA/MP3s from the USB flash-Drive is better than CDs and will NOT and can NOT jump

Hey Doug,
Do you invariably buy 'friday' or 'monday' models, have had my FM transmitter for over 12 months - thru the Bungles,
Gibb River etc no probs.
Other alternative look for FM radio unit that has both USB and memory card capabilities.

If you are buying an FM Transmitter buy one that has ATLEAST 7 channels in it - the one's with four or less are not digitally controlled in frequency and will give poor reception.
You may need to mount the FM transmitter close to the radio aerial to get a decent signal. Some cars have the FM antenna on a rear window.
In big cities like
Sydney you may have a problem finding a quiet channel because EVERY FM channel is used.

some radios have usb...which is a better idea than ipod when one looks at price and your thinking about upgrading the radio anyway
