Ruth from Birdsville Caravan Park
Morning All, we received a total of 9 mm rain, not much, but plenty received elsewhere, mostly to the east of us. The
Birdsville-
Windorah Road got plenty with Durrie Station having 37 mm (they are smiling) and
Glengyle Station (to the north half-way from
Birdsville-
Bedourie) also received good rains (both Kidman Stations too). The only roads open at the moment (update expected this a.m.) -
Simpson Desert with care in muddy swales
South on
Birdsville Track - 4WD only to Mungeranie only
It was reported yesterday that at least 10 vehicles (one with caravan) had left
Innamincka (on closed roads) and heading this way. Given that a Subaru ripped it's sump out near Cadelga
Ruins (before the rain) and could not be rescued until yesterday (and interesting trip for the rescurers) - it seems a great shame when the
Cordillo Downs Road has only just been graded that thoughtless, self-centered people should head out and cut the roads up - no
sign of them yet.
Today is clear and sunny with light wind. Yesterday was very very cold with freezing wind and cloudy.
Safe travels everyone.

LOL those numbskulls would probably get over that too quick. It'd be a real shame though if the local rangers/cops were waiting for them at the end of a still "closed" road eh. What is the fine?

Al
I believe it is $1,000.00 per tyre. I may be wrong but that is the figure I heard talked about when we were rained in at Innaminka last year.
Can't believe that people *must* travel on closed roads and st*** it up for everyone else.

Thanks Mrs slave :))))))
Unfortunately too many have such a rushed itinerary they can't handle the slightest of delays. I honestly cannot see how they enjoy themselves. It's like rushing around ticking items off a list and then saying they've been there. Definitely not my idea of a holiday.

Hi Ruth,
We really enjoy reading your postings about the weather & road conditions out there. We are making a third trip out soon for the upcoming races & all going
well with the weather hoping to do the Innaminka track. It is so selfish of these recent tourists to ruin these roads, if only they waited a day or three.
Regards Barraman.

Ruth,
I rekon the freezing wind is coming from down here, in the Barossa Valley, it blew here all day yesterday with a top temp of 10. Must be coming from the South Pole I think.

Good morning Ruth, glad to hear you at least received some H20 & did not miss out entirely.I know when we were there
Birdsville, you had told me that the road through
Cordillo Downs had just been graded & i did not doubt you're words, but when we travelled it iwould say it had not been done at all,it was & know doubt still is quite rough, i know i am from the the big smoke & some would say that i not know of what i am talking but i can say this the road was very rutted rocks chewed out from other vehicles '4x4's mainly & probwably the odd Roadtrain. We in a motor home towing on a trailer a little zuzuki were travelling most of the distance from
Birdsville to Innaminka at around 20-30klm's p/hr.It took us about 16 hour's to do the the trip & i am not complaining it allowed us to absorb the scenery much better.A chap at Innaminka trye repair place whomi would say was right on the money by telling me that the council would be better off not grading the road & to leave it to the vehicles traversing them as if they graded them every week they would be no different. So i can imagine that little Subaru ripping his sump out it may not have happened if he were to drive a little more carefull if he were not.A couple of the
creek crossing at the Cadelga Ruin's had when we crossed them a lot of sizeable rock's in them so if you were not carefull when came into them this type of thing could happen.Yes it is very thoughtless of them to go out on the roads while they are still wet of course.I am glad idone this trip & would not hesitate to do it again but it would be in a 4x4 next time.Ruth are you retiring from the c/
park or retiring all together, which ever it is i wish you & Ian all the best & enjoy you're g/kid's.
Cheer's Bob.

Good morning Ruth,
Great to see that part of the country got some rain, as I assume it is very much needed. Hope you get some more.
When will these people learn, that all they are doing is giving more ammunition to people(re ban 4wd's) by destroying the roads that our tax dollars are paying for!!. If only they stayed where they were(like Bob said), they could've enjoyed the scenery a bit more, been more relaxed, and safer as
well. I'm getting off my soapbox now.
Is what Bob said a rumour or are you retiring Ruth?.
Cheers Greg

Gday Ruth,
Thanks for your hospitallity, we thouroughly enjoyed our milkshakes through the week.
I think we experienced it all, 27c, wind and dust storms and rain at Mungerannie on Thursday night.
We were lucky that Mungarannie-
Marree was open, plenty of others waiting to head north.
Bye
Dean

Hi Ruth,
Having just got back a week ago from a trip around the Cape and back via
Boulia & Diamantina NP,
Windorah etc, its wonderful to hear they are getting rain where its needed. We were shocked at the condition of the land in south western Qld and felt incredibly sorry for land owners in those areas. I've never seen such desolute areas - its truly wonderful to hear they are getting rain at last.
