I'm planning a return trip to the Cape this June/July from Sydney. My question is how much time should I allow. I will have up to 8 weeks available, is this sufficient. Are there any must see side trips. It will probably be a few years before I will have an opportunity to return so I wouldn't like to rush through it.

michael, 8 weeks should be plenty, i did it in june - july 2001. 4 weeks ex byron bay 2 days each way to cairns you can take your time.
id recommend ron moons book "cape york an adventurers guide" available in the shop on this web site. it has comprehensive info on "everything" including itineries which you may have to adjust as we did because of extended wet conditions in june. we went alone and had a great trip, be prepared and try for the creb track and roaring meg falls.
regards peter

Dear Michael,
Yes 8 weeks will be plenty of time. We did the trip last June which we had an absolute ball.
I recommend travelling the telegraph up and back, the bypass is way too corrigated.
Don't miss Chilli beach!! A slow and rough road to get into Chilli beach but well worth the effort. You could spend a week there relaxing. They have toilets but no showers and no fresh water.
Twin Falls is also a must !! We also travelled the telegraph above Twin Falls which was great.
Keith Moons book is excellent and very accurate.
Have a great trip
Regards
Wheely

Dear Lyds
Keith Moon has travelled the Cape York area for many years and writes a very detailed book on the area. A must have if your travelling up there!!!!

I don't think Keith Moon ever visited Cape York. He was the drummer for The Who and died a few years ago!

I think you mean Ron Moon.

Stephen.
