Do you see those fish before you catch them, the season is from 1st October to the end April in NZ and it is the flyfishing for trout season.

NZ ruined my trout fishing in Australia . After fishing the Tongariro a couple of times and some of the north island lakes , I was spoilt forever .

Willie,

Try Tassie, that's still in Australia and the Trout are feral, especially the Rainbows.

I have also been to "Trout Fisherman's Mecca" on the Tongariro.

re : Fishing in Tassie.

There are many rivers in Tassie and nearly all hold trout (usually browns, some have rainbows/browns and a few only rainbows).

All streams/water (in Tassie) are viable fishing destinations except for a VERY FEW which have no trout (mainly in SW Tas. and a few of the highland streams).

Season opens tomorrow ! (5th August).

"Sea runners" can be caught in most estuaries from September to January (varies a bit).

Best advice for any thinking of a fishing trip here is to buy Greg French's book, "Trout waters of Tasmania" which gives a comprehensive listing of all the streams and lakes on the island, and the fishing opportunities available.

regards
Terry

Sand Man ,

I once fished the highland lakes many in February . The water levels were low and often I was fishing over sand in 2-3 feet of clear water . the fish were very nervous and all I usually saw was a puff of sand as they bolted away from me.

The bigger lakes like Bronte and Arthurs were easy enough , but those shallow lakes totally defeated me . Perhaps I should have tried them at the start of the season when the water was higher and the fish were up feeding in the tussocks .

I would like to go back and try the rivers as I find most of the lakes a bit boring .

I think I am going down there camping for a couple of weeks in Feb .

Cheers ,

Willie .

Terry - thanks for the info , I will get that book . One thing I know about trout fishing in Tassie , is that you have the best tackle shop in Australia in Launceston .

haha ...
he is such a smart.... , actually his attitude is the reason I walked away
from seriously considering his product.. well not just ... they are a bit
old fashioned inside also ... others make good stuff too not just him ...
and there is many ways of handling off road conditions... I travel with
lots of equipment and it usually is a matter of packing properly ...
but I agree ... it is a good show .. lol

You've lost me mate.....which post are we supposed to be looking at? I had a gander at the one with the piccy's of the BT hitting the Armco. But that doesn't seem to have anything to do with what you're talking about?

Confused (as usual)/......

Geez mate, what a rig!!!!

I'd have no bloody idea what a tray and canopy would weigh for that monster.....but I would be surprised if it would be too much different to the tub.....and in any case, so long as it's not more than about 7 tonnes, i wouldn't think you'd even notice it!!! hahahaha;-)))

Cheers mate

that pig on the spit in the Copeton Rally photos looks too far away from the fire, no wonder it didn't cook too well.
