In the market for a 40-50 litre fridge. Doing the usual engel waeco debate but saw a bushman at the show today for a pretty good price. Have heard they are easy on the juice. Has a ACC GD30 FDC compressor which I have never heard of. Googled them and they seem to have sold a heap of the compressors overseas. Anyone know anything about them? I believe bushman used to use the danfoss compressor as the other makes do so is the ACC compressor any better or worse?

I think it is a recent change as at the show they had a disassembled one for viewing that had the ACC compresser but thier propaganda material stilled showed Danfoss. On their webpage it shows "Compressor - ACC GD30FDC Brushless 12v/24v current electronically comutated"

From my google searches apparently ACC is Europe's largest producer of household and commercial refrigeration compressors, with an annual production of 21 million units.

And here's a bit of blurb about the GD30FDC from there webpage. article dated 8/8/05 -
-----------------------
ACC's Commercial Cold has recently released the GD30FDC compressor, powered by DC current at any voltage from 12 to 42V, and intended for mobile applications.

Compact in dimensions, the GD30FDC compressor is silent, efficient and can work even with a strong tilt (30°), marking it especially suitable for mobile applications in boats, trucks, private cars or medical appliances in ambulances.

The GD30FDC is VDE homologated.

Its highly performing electronics allow a wide variety of programming functions. Its drivers feature self-controls that guarantee reliability of the product in front of any circumstance, battery exhaustion or any other situation of risk. The GD30FDC works under several voltage values, which makes it especially suitable to be used with photovoltaic plates.

--------------------------

they "sound" pretty good, the guy at the show reckoned they were more efficient than the danfoss but had nothing to back that up.

cookie,
I ordered one at the Sydney show.

The old bloke told me he was going to a new compressor, I think he said it was made in Spain.

He assured me he had researched it and was confident it was a reliable compressor.

I can remember buying commercial clothes dryers from Spain many yesars ago, hopefully these compressors are just as good.

Mine is being delivered next Wednesday. Give it a few months and we'll see if the rubber band breaks on the first trip.

Did he also mention that you can buy a sleeve to increase its capacity to 50 litres at a cost of $99?

Regards Bob

PS Can the 'spacing Guru' tell me if my spacings OK:))))))))

hi cookie i have had a bushman for 3 years , had no trouble with it , i believe it is better than engal in that you can set the temperature, mine has a danfros compressor, and i have taken it on several large trips to the cape, flinders, birdsville, as well as a load of weekend trips, good luck on your choice.

leroy ,the knob on top of the engal can be set to a number from 1 to 5 i think from memory , then you wait to see what temperature the fridge cools to, with a bushman you can set to the temperature that you want eg, 3 deg the compressor kicks in at 6 deg and cuts out at 0 deg so the average temperature is 3 deg as set , there is no guess work as in the engal

Cookie

I can't help re new the ACC comp' but I've had my Bushman for about 4yrs and it's never given any trouble. Got the hi-top, basket etc, and I rejigged the lid to open lenghtways (same as engl) added an extra fan to assist airflow from the top due to the original fan sits low. Maybe I didn't need to but it can't hurt.

Well I went back to the show today and put my money down for the bushman. $998 including high top lid, extra basket and cover. The toyota dealer had a special on 40l engels for $1050 but an extra 150 for cover. Wasn't so much the price though, the bushman guy was very friendly and helpful and I like the idea of dealing with a smaller operation with a good product who seem to have good service and backup. Inherently being smaller they rely on it. The salesman is also the WA distributer and service agent. A guy actually came into the show with an early model bushman and he fixed a problem there and then free of charge without checking his warranty details or anything.

Also hoping the ACC compressor offers some advantages. Being a newer design than the danfoss it should it should be more efficient, which is what the sales guy claims, reliability - well time will be decider I guess.

Hi Guys
To stop all the confusion, Bushman have released a new model called The Bushman series 2; this fridge runs the ACCC compressor which does come from Spain. At a recent show I did mention that the compressor come from Sweden but I stand corrected as I was confusing it with a shipment of fridges that went to Sweden.
Cheers
