Now i have rceived my tax return I'm going to spend it on well ME.
I was wanting to get a GPS for patrol GU3, 3Lit. I was wondering what people would recommend, I 'll want country roads and tracks in (preferably a voice prompt job which isn't too bulky.

I was also wondering if any other patro, 3lit owners have upgarded to a bigger exhaust say 3" and what has that done for your power and economy.

All replies would be very welcome.

Mick, just a thought, had you typed into the search engine a query on each of those issues?

I think the clarity of replies will be better if you ask about GPS and a bigger exhaust in separate posts too.

On the exhaust I am rapt in mine on a TD4.2I Nissan for economy if I am driving that way and power if I need it.

Look at PDAs for your GPS but I think I would rather have a connected GPS to a bluetooth one.

I agree on both counts John, Acer N35 PDA with built in GPS works well for me and the exhaust upgrade is great for my 4.2Turbo Patrol as well (but mine ain't a 3lt so I don't know if the exhaust will do same for the 4cyl???)

Mick, I reckon you could nearly answer the GPS question yourself by talking to Johnny Appleseed GPS, they only sell GPS and software to match. I found them a wealth of knowledge and they are on the net for email advise if you are not near one of their stores. The GPS should suit your needs and mapping requirements rather than what everyone else has. Maybe worth narrowing down to a couple of equivalent GPS units and then posting the question of reliability and functionality between the units again, this way you will get answers relating to the GPS units that suit your needs, just a thought...either way I hope you enjoy spending the tax cheque on YOURSELF.

Cheers, Trevor.

I have just had a 2 1/2 inch straight thru exhaust ( into a hot dog muffler ) put onto my Navara ST-R D22,,2003,, 3.0TD

WOW what a difference !!

10 - 15 % increase in power,,

That makes for very easy towing of my camper, ( weight 1050 kgs loaded up )

I asked about a 3 " system but the guy fitting advised me against it ,, saying that those little 4 cylinder TD's need a bit of back pressure to function correctly,,the 6 cylinder diesel needs a 3" exhaust

Glad I listened to him , and the 2 1/2 " exhaust only cost 1/2 that of the 3" one

Just do it ! but think about the size and cost

Email me if you like bloh@aapt.net.au
but be quick ...I'm off to the desert this coming Sunday for 1 month

Cheers
Bucky

on exhaust my 4.2td is a lot better on 3'' & on GPS I have just finished working at the Sydney boat show & Magellan have a new soft ware package (due in 2-3 weeks) for the 600 & Xl with all topos & street scape (easy down load) & can also take full marine charts & is a lot more user friendly than my 2005 model 600
Note if you want to use it for marine, buy it with the marine pack & than buy the land up grades as it is cheaper that way, as the marine up grade is a lot dearer & packs are the same price originally.

Hi Mick
I do not think you will get a voice promt unit to cover any tracks. Those voice jobs are for cities mostly with the sofware not catering for offroad travel. Johnny Appleseed is where I bought my Geko 201 GPS for less than $300, hooked it up to a $70 secondhand laptop and with Oziexplorer was up and away.....If you have the cash, try a PDA but like I said, voice promts will not be available for offroad tracks, also pre-loaded maps have very little country details.
