Hello!

A group of us are making a trip to the Birdsville Races this year via Flinders and the Birdsville Track.

Just wondering if anyone else will be attending?

Some of us have been numerous times but not in the last few years - any handy info would be great e.g. road con.,sites to see, events along the way and during Birdsville Race week etc.

Hi Shawsie,
We will be travelling via Hawker, Leigh Creek and up the Birdsville Track. Considering a trip via Innamincka/Strz Track to return home.

Looking forward to it too!

Following rain and a lot of traffic, the Birdsville Track (certainly from Birdsville to Mungerannie) has been graded in the last fortnight.
Birdsville to Windorah Road - also a lot of rain and the boys have worked 24 hour shifts grading through to the boundary with Barcoo Shire (say Deon's Lookout).
Cordillo Downs had been graded just before the rain but is not too bad.
Arrabury Road (Innaminck/Dig Tree - up the Queensland side of Qld/SA border) is very rough.
Walkers Crossing is quite good.

Hi Ruth. We are heading up your way about the 15th September. What is the Simpson like right now? It's a bit hard finding out! Hope to see you there at Birdsville. Do we need to book for tent sites? I have enjoyed reading all your recent postings. Cheers. Christine.

Yeah, we're heading out too; leaving Sunday morning from Gold Coast, going thru Charleville, Quilpie, Windorah. Went out about 13 or 14 years ago.
Sounds like there's been a bit of rain on the last bit of road out altho I see by the weather map that Birdsville hasnt had any at all since last month.

Only thing I heard about was on TV - 'Big Red' a good place about 30 kms out from Birdsville to try out the fourbie a bit and have a bit of fun.
