Morning all,

I'm tossing up wether to start using WVO or Biodiesel in my cruiser, and was wondering if anyone else out there could share some of their experiences. There is heaps on the web about Biodiesel, but not so much about SVO.

My options, as I see them, are:
1/ Make Biodiesel, and just use that.
2/ Use WVO in the main tank, and start and stop off the sub-tank with either normal diesel or biodiesel.

The WVO will need some heating tubes run from the motor to heat it up a bit, but there is virtually no processing of the oil.

I have a regular supply of WVO, just working out which way to go now..

Cheers,

Chump

Hey Chump Boy ... how you doing?

I'm running B100 whenever I can - either from when I get time to make it in a mate's shed and in his plant, or from SAFF which you don't have over there.

I highly recommend it - the 1HZ runs like a dream on it, with just the usual issues about cleaning our your fuel filters in the first little while.

I know there are some WA folks running older Toyota Diesels on WVO - I think TIM62 (is it) - anyhow, one of them here is doing it.

You do need to do some work on mods I think for WVO - and you need a tank for it. Go look at www.biofuelsforum.com for the good oil.

All the best,
Andrew who always smells like fish and chips.

Thanks for that - I've been haunting those forums for a little while, just reading up on the processes and stuff.

I just happen to have found a regular supply of WVO, so I might as well use it!

Cheers,

Chump

chump,

I think you will find that Biodiesel is/can be made from WVO.

I have never seen written, or heard of anyone running untreated WVO in their truck.

A mate of mine is running 40% filterd WVO/ 60% diesel without any tank heaters, in his 6.5 Chevy V8. His car seems to start easier with less cranking and idles a lot smoother with this mix. No problems after 6 months, don't know how it will go long term?

I've found that I use about 1L/100km mmore runnign biodiesel than fossil fuel diesel. Talking to truckies around the place they have found similar increases in usage. With current prices it would work out (for me) about 3c/100km cheaper to use fossil fuel, but I choose to use the renewable resource of biodiesel.

Just my 3c worth
Alex.
