What is happening to the plan to broadcast Broadband via Powerlines?
Is this still a live issue as I have not heard anything in the last little wile?

Haven't been checking for a while, but I believe it was being trialled in Tassie.
Guess the rationale is that not many people use HF in Tassie like they do on the mainland. So if nobody complains down there, then it's ok to roll it out on the mainland.

It is still a live issue. Go the Wirelss Institure of Australia WWW site to get the current state of play. At least 1 ham operator was blown off the air with interference during the trial in Tas.

Telstras plan to scrap rural high speed broadband roll outs, and the coalition of providers prepared to jump on board now can't be a good thing on this topic....
Time will tell.

I don't think fhere was ever any intention to roll out BPL to rural areas even though it may have been mentioned among the smoke screen of information put up as defense by the power providers. The capital costs are too high for the return, even the trials in large
population centres have been very expensive for the subscribers, Buggered if I know how they got anyone to
sign up at those prices.
