We have purchased a Landcruiser 79 series and wil be putting a
camping canopy on the back. For security and dust purposes we are leaning towards steel or aluminium.
Can anyone comment on the merits of 1) All steel 2) Steel frame with Aluminium skin or 3) All Aluminium.
Any tips for good manufacturers in the
Sydney region ?
Any comments on coping with condensation if we sleep inside the canopy?

Hi
Just doing the same at present. we have decided on alloy for weight purposes. Built correctly it should not be a problem.
We are using David Vella who owns daves Metal Products at Wetherill
Park. He has done numerous and all have travelled heavily corrugated roads without any problem.
Good luck

Just looked up Yellow Pages but couldn't find a listing for Daves Metal Products. Would you either have a phone number or the exact name of the business. Thanks again.

Hi
02 9756 0142 is the number. If you go to the Shippshape rooftop tent site there is a vehicle on there he has done.

Good stuff - did you get the TD?
I went with an aluminium box - had it built by a small company in
Adelaide who make very good stuff. They used 3mm aluminium for most of it - it is strong enough to need a minimum of framing. I have no back door - thats where dust gets in.
We still use swag or tent. But the thought of adding a Maggolina or Ezyawn rooftop tent is something we have considered.

Yep, turbo diesel. White RV. Looks the same as the towing vehicle in your pics. Does you canopy man in
Adelaide still exist? If so, can you give me his company name and phone number. Tried searching for GSV in Yellow Pages but couldn't come up with results. Thanks for your help and love your rig.

GSV came up in my search!
GSV Specialised Vehicles
5 Ninth St

Albert is the name of the guy who owns it and runs it. Its nice to deal with a guy who wears overalls! I gave him the dimensions of what I wanted, and he did the rest.
They won't come cheap. While my basic box was $6000, I think prices have risen. But you get what you pay for - and its all nicely finished in 2-pack to match the vehicles paintwork.
Cheers
Phil
