Hi All

Has anyone had any experience with these fridges. I particularly interested in how they run on 12 volt (power draw etc).

They are on sale at KMart tomorrow for $299 ($200 off)

Many Thanks

Peter

They run well off 240v and gas and ok off 12v. They do draw alot of power so you should only use them on 12v whilst the vehicle was actually running. I wouldn't even leave them plugged in whilst you had a lunch stop or you might find the vehicle won't start when you want to head off again. They are very good to use at home on 240v as a spare or beer fridge. They are also very good to use on gas if you are camping somewhere for a fair while.
If that suits you, then the price seems pretty good.

Hi OzDragon
I Had a three way for a while and found it great on gas when camping in one spot for an extended stay, set and forget, a small gas bottle (3kg) would last weeks. Just had to check to make sure the flame had not blown out every now and then. However I found it very average on 12v and not very good when moving, they like to be very level to work efficiently (mine did anyway).

Mine also did not have a thermostat which meant it was just on all the time when on 12v and this chewed the batteries quite quickly new ones might have a thermostat but I am not sure.. Most compressor based fridges waeco, engels etc operate more like a conventional fridge with a thermostat.

Plenty of discussion on the topic on this site in the past if you need more info.

Peter,

My son has one and it is great on 240 and gas but a bit average on 12volt. I don't know the exact draw but I believe it is pretty hungry on amps.

Just out of interest which state are you in and do you know if the sale is nationwide as I might try and grab one at that price?

Have a good one.

My Chescold 3 way with similar technology _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx 10A on 12V if that helps. As above, don't walk away and leave it running in the car, it will drop a starting battery to dead flat in a few short hours. On gas it is a dream.

Reading the data on the box it says that they use 90 watts on 12 & 240 volts. They look good enough & at that price would be a good buy, plus being from K mart if they screw up it's a simple matter to get a refund.....They are currently priced at $399 in Canberra....

Peter, as with the other replies, I agree that 3 ways are great on gas. My old Finch
will blow stubbies if set too high. 12 volt keeps things cool ok & worth hooking up as you drive for sure, but be wary when motor not going.Sounds like a good price. Regards..Baz.

I've got a Repco jobby. 10mths old. Same thing different plastic in lid, Brand Ac-Dc Manufacturor Narva. No returns at Alice repco, paid @$270.

V.good on gas, just as good on 240v.

12v also good, still maintains 6' when moving and once hit @10' on a 42' day. (I also suspect it was knocked and unplugged for @1hr, never happened b4 or since}

We leave it running for 1hr lunch break no dramas, , mind you we have a 720cca batt in a 2.7 4 cyl petrol. Also will maintain chill as it's a v.good esky.

It's pretty much been turned on and travelling since we bought it. We do Mereenie rough end every 4wks.

Hard wire it to battery 8mm wire with fuses. Lose the cigarette adaptor.

Hi, we've got the jackaroo fridge, used it last year for big trip to Alice via Adelaide (from Sydney), no problems with it but didn't leave it running in the car, but it kept cold enough for a few hours turned off. We used it on gas overnight, sat it under the fold-up table and it was great. Sometimes when we camped with a powered site we plugged it in and put it in the tent. The only problem we had was a few months ago the gas jet blocked up, and we had a bit of trouble getting another one to fit as it was different to all other fridges available, but eventually got one from the supplier in Melbourne. Now the fridge is used at our weekened property and is running fine. I'd recommend it. Lauren.
