Morning all,

After searching previous post and the archives I didnt come up with anything, but I am sure I have read ways that people have secured their 240 Blitz on their bar.

I guess I am asking what others have done to secure only these lights

I was thinking, but arent and auto elec and havent asked one yet, is there any way of setting up a sensor or the like like is done on the bonnet or some simple break a contact type setup.

Cheers
Kata

Back in World War 2 there was a covert operation call the 240 Blitz. Do a google to find out more information.

Yes, a simple magnet switch should do the job. Had this set-up on a set of "hot" wheels in an old Torana to set off a siren if the wheels come away from the brake drum. Was installed by a car alarm bloke down in Sydney, so I don't know specifically what they are called but it is possible. Jaycar or Dick Smith's may understand more and have what you need.

Just fit a 2nd earth wire to the lights which will be the earth for a siren relay and when they cut the wires the siren will go off.

Hers is a picture of 240 Blitz

Do you really think that an alarm will stop them. Maybe something to actually stop them un bolting the lights would be better. A lock, pinned retaining nut etc?
We have been driving around this beautiful BIG country for 18 months now and pulled into Melbourne recently on a Sunday afternoon. Parked in La Trobe st and went into a shop in Elizabeth St. Gone about 10 mins max and came back to the cruiser and the 240's were gone. The wankers even cut the wires 20mm away from a pull apart join.
We learnt the hard way. now have to save up again.

I'd love a pair but you have hilighted why I haven't run out and bought a pair. I'd be worried every time i parked the car whether the light would be there when i got back.

I've drilled a hole in the main bolt and put a small padlock through each bolt. It would be very difficult to get a pair of bolt cutters etc in to that area to cut them. However, then there is the horizontal bolt that holds the light body to the base plate. There was a picture on another post here a week or 2 ago, which showed a steel "U" shaped bracket which protected that bolt from being undone too easily. However, then you have the 3rd issue that the main reflector unit can simply be unscrewed in about 5 seconds......useless to the stealer, but makes your lights useless to you too.
The XGTs might be just a little bit more difficult to pinch for that last reason.
Too bad there are so many mongrels around!!!

Good suggestion regarding the magntic contact and the earthwire, I actually meant and I didnt actually explain myself fully so my fault.

What do people or have people done to secure the plastic from being unscrewed and be left with the light stalk only.
How is that secured to the base

Kata,
See my comment immediately above here. The reflector lense cannot be secured easily. I haven't done it yet, but I have considered drilling a hole through the side of the lense section , so it just catches the central spigot too; then placing a piece of stainless steel wire (I'm talking only about 1 to 2mm diameter here. The wire would then be cut off flush so that pliers couldn't be used to pull it out.

It would be tricky to remove, as it would have been "forced" in and would require a similar bit of wire to be used to push the wire out if you wanted to change the bulb etc.

I'm working on the theory that a thief would not (a) be carrying the right size bit of wire to push the piece out that I'd forced in; and (b) want to hang around and take several minutes to try to work out why he can't unscrew the lense section.

with my 240s i replaced both bolts with longer ones put the nylock nut back on and then put an extra non nylock nut on end of thread and put dab of weld on each of these , if this makes sense . had not problems with this on 60 series now on 100 series same lights no problems

There are coded nuts available from IFP. They are similar to the mag wheel nuts you get.

I will order some in and put them up on my site when they come in.
