Yes they are readily available.
I have seen them at Camping Stores, on Ebay, also one of the advertisers here would sell them (Derek from ABR or sidewinder.com.au).
Cost I would guess would be about $60 to $100 for one complete, kits are cheaper.
Cheaper than stuffing up your battery.

Engel have just released a new model with digital read out and selectable cut out voltage, 10.5 or 11.5 volts.
Nice unit, fitted one yesterday.
Can be supplied as a "plug in" model or for hard wiring.
I used the hard wired model, $98.00.
Needs to be wired via a relay so add another $7.00.

Projecta make a good compact unit. Cost is around $39 and available at Kmart, Repco, etc.

The only proviso I would make is to replace the plug and socket with the "Merrit" type.

If you are good with a soldering iron, the Jaycar or Dick Smith kits work fine - thats what I've used on my engels for the past 10 years. And you can vary the cutout voltage. about $30.

Fully made up - the $30 Projecta sure-start is a reasonable option.

If you want the best, get the Engel one that Bob suggests above.

Your old Engel will draw about 6amps when cycling. The above are rated at 10amps, so I'd only use them for the Engel - I mount mine on the fridge itself.

Ray ,with all the $ you have squireled away you could buy a newer Engle or even better a new Waeco , both nowadays have the low voltage protection built in ..LOL

Yes Engel have a new digital one ! I think they are great !
