I read in the Herald Sun (Vic) yesterday that the government is looking at legislating against in vehicle TVs & DVD screens, certainly from in the front, also it will illegal to have them where they can be seen by any passing vehicles, so maybe headrest & roof mounted screens may ahve to go.

Hopefully the cretins that make the rules will still allow reversing camera screens? Nah, probably not, lol.

Going to be interesting banning the rear screens that can be seen by other cars, that are a standard fixture in some cars.

I wonder what they will say about a laptop or computer monitor (ie touch screen etc) mounted in the front. Even if it is running mapping software.

Could almost guarantee if that legislation passes, there will be some cops who simply see it as a monitor and therefore bookable.

Most police cars have screeens in the front seat to check on regos etc.

Now they will have to go to the back seat to check.

The data terminals cut out when rotated to a position where the driver can see it unless the handbrake is on and or its in park.

its has always got on my goat when you observe the amount of time a taxi driver takes his eye off the road for while working his booking system - similar to worse thatn using a phone / sms while driving.
I think banning of entertainment displays from the the drivers vision ( in his own vehicle) is a reasonable measure.

I think that may be what has prompted the govt action, is that some drivers do watch the screens while they drive!

Simple advice.

Stop reading that rag called the Herald Sun, that masquerades as a newspaper.

Buy "The Age".

Then you'll not read sensationalist bullchit.

Fair Dinkhum, The Sun is a grubby tabloid. Their typical front page story is about Madonna's knockers or something equally as unimportant.

Since when has Madonna's knockers been unimportant! that's what people want to read Jim, that why the Sun has a huge circulation, that's why the Age has a dismal circulation. I think you need to chill out a bit Jim, hang out with a few cool dudes for a while and hope something rubs off, life is short.

"Since when has Madonna's knockers been unimportant! that's what people want to read Jim"

People maybe, but not those who want read the news.

"Sun has a huge circulation, that's why the Age has a dismal circulation"

That is a reflection of the intelligence of who reads what. The masses are dills.

I wouldn't wipe my freckle with The Sun. It is a grubby tabloid rag. What's more it it is very biased.

Still, everyone is entitled to read whatever they like and be informed (or ill informed) as they like.

"Cool Dudes" "Chill Out" Not me. I don't adhere to Yank jargon.

Ray,

I couldn't be happier. I have a Wife and Sons whom I love dearly, and due to misfortune, they all have significant health issues. But bugger me, they are all still alive and reasonably well. I'm not sure you understand how happy that makes me.

I'm the kinda bloke who sees the glass as half, not half empty. I like to to see the world as it is. Hence I read The Age (had it home delivered for years now).

Bullchit it is no longer important to me. I don't want to read about Tom Cruise's in growing toe nail.

My outlook on life has changed dramatically in the last 18 months. I simply don't have time for insignificant crap.

All the best,

Jim.

Just to clue you up a little, The Age has, in it's election day editorial, advocated a vote for the Coalition at the last three federal elections.

Whatever but newspapers should stick with reporting the news and not align themselves with any political party and attempt to influence people. Editorials and all other soapbox columns should also be scrapped, well maybe that's going a bit far but I get peeved off with a lot of the opinionated crap from journalists.

I think some are getting right off track.

My original post was that The Herald Sun is a Papparazzi driven tabloid that is more interested in the nuances of celbrities than decent, informed reporting of the important things in life.

Quite simply if you want to read about the real news issues, buy The Age. If you're more interested in scuttlebut and trivia, buy The Herald Sun. It's a personal choice depending on what you choose to be informed about.

Shaker,

I'll put this as simply as I can.

My response was to highlight that your post was about information gathered from an unreliable media source that has no credibility in the world of decent journalism.

Ever heard the term "tabloid journalism"? It is a media term to describe pathetic reporting by grubby press organisations.

You have a right to post whatever you like. Similarly I have a right to question its authenticity.

Hence the relevance.

I don't live in Vic but i do agree with Jimbo that most news is rubbish. ABC tv news is the best, and for international affairs SBS. I'm always fascinated by the difference in quality and bias between ABC and commercial stations in what is apparently the same story.

For example: Petrol prices and the oil problems are reported very superficially by commercial stations. They usually have some "expert" come on and predict prices will be $2.50 by Christmas. ABC actually analyse the issues and provide perspectives on contributing factors. If you want to understand whats going on the ABC is the only one. I don't waste my time with commercial news. If only the ABC had a nation-wide daily newspaper.

Jibo it seems that every paper that isn't a broadsheet is a "grubby tabloid" to you. Some of the Sun readers I know buy it because they don't have to read the article in depth to get the information, oh, and also some of them like to read Andrew Bolt too.

Jimbo, the cover of Adelaide's Sunday Mail has cricket umpire Daryl Hair and a title saying how he wanted compensation for his troubles in that letter that he later withdrew and regretted. Three days afterwards it's the cover of the weekend paper. Agree with what you're saying. Waste of paper that would do more good remaining as a tree.
