Marn, I totally agree with the additional licences, the thing wouldd be to actually have to do a decent amount of prac/theory before it is issued(similar to motor bike/light truck). It would be pointless issuing licences like recreational fishing licences where "ya pays ya money, ya gets ya ticket".
Benefits??? Say goodnight to "Mums taxi", "trophy" vehicles, and ppl that haven't got a clue how to drive them in the first place. If you are driving something that weighs in at almost the same as an unladen medium truck, with the same sort of handling and CofG issues, then why shouldn't you need a special licence to drive them????
Practical upshot??? Less ppl in 4WD's having accidents (deaths and injuries) and possibly less insurance cost per year (no more Coles
carpark fender benders by "Mum's taxi").
So which would you prefer, an extra $200-400 for the extra lessons and driving
test once, or an extra $??? EVERY YEAR on your insurance? That pretty much is how the situation is at the moment.
