Hi all

Has anyone travelled from Silverton to Frome Downs by tracks etc recently?

We want to travel this area in late October as a different way to Alice Springs for the Masters Games.

We have run out of different ways to AS from Melb and trying to cover new ground.

Thanks in anticipation.

I thought I had read somewhere that it can't be done as it is on private land.....somebody might have further information on this.

Thanks Landy

I tried to go through Frome Downs about 12 - 15 years ago but the owner would not grant access.

I was hoping that maybe things had changed or there was another way to travel in that direction and that my ExplorOz friends were the best people to ask.

Woodsy,

I know you can't travel across the top of Lake Frome on Quinyambe, the owners won't permit that but across the bottom near Frome Downs may be different. There are a few things opening up in the area with a couple of new mining leases happening.

I would start asking at Frome Downs and see how you get on. It is certainly worth a try. Let me know how you get on.

If you MM me I may be able to help with a couple of phone numbers.

There is still no access through Frome Downs.

Best is to come down to Yunta and then take some side tracks through the Flinders Ranges or, come via Camerons Corner, Merty Merty, Mt Hopeless, Mooloowatanna and then to Lyndhurst and up the Oodna to the Alice.

Cheers

Willem is right, I contacted Frome Downs about 1998 to see if I could travel the Dog Fence, the reply was a big NO NO, I guess they see it as a risk on their property if something unforseen happens

Frome Downs have had a lot of trouble from yobbos in the past on their property and will no longer allow passage through.

Quinyambie is the same.

Thanks Duncs, Willem & Doug T (WA)

Our fall back position was to go north from Yunta to Frome Downs to Balcanoona and onwards to eventually arrive in Alice, battered, broke but relaxed.

I now have the phone number of Frome Downs owner and will ring him.

Will post the results.
