I use it on uhf. If you can get a secall through you know you are in talking range with who you need to chat too. hand when trying to catch up with people in remote
places.

Heh Jim,
Just the man I need to talk to. I have an 8528 anf have never set up or used Selcall, but use HF all the time when travelling. I am assigned Selcall 4017 for Q4017 on VKS-737. How do I set
mine up as 4017. I know how to Secall a particular #.
Cheers Ian@Mt Dare

I had a Tx4400 and never used selcall or most of its other functions. My brand new second hand truck came with a Tx3200 so I'll just stick with that.
Actually I did use selcall once when I found someone else that also had a selcall unit. Although just for fun.

Selcall can be useful when set up properly.
With current UHF use where no one has a registered call sign, or "handle" any more, if you send out a call tone, others in the select group will know another of the "group", is about to go "on channel".
Otherwise, you may say, "are you on channel Bruce" and five different Bruces respond.
Probably not that important in remote areas where only the "convoy" you are in are within range.

My radio has it but a lot of the guys I go out with don't so it never gets used although I probably would if others had it.
