Well I just learnt something. I always thought the line along the border (North South) was a straight line. In fact it is a dog leg at the Murray and about 3.5kms from being parrallel.
The intersecting point is approx 34degrees 114.736" S
and 141Degrees 6.240" East
I am sure someone who is a lot better informed than me will give more accurate information.

Hi Bear77,
The westerly displacement of the SA / Vic border has a been an issue for a long time, I think it was resolved by an act of the english parliment.
The SA/VIC and NSW borders we all supposed to meet at the river - an early survey error introduced the SA/VIC error.
Here's two web link's a google sheach shows a good few.

We are traveling down the border track in a few weeks - the histroy on the area all adds to the experience.

That's an interesting link.

Even though the question was a simple one, on first glance, one postitive of forums is that someone out there has an interest in history or what, why, how things have come about, or a good story about something of relevance.

Thanks for supplying the link of state borders.

One thing that would be interesting, is to see 360degree photos of each state corner. I don't have the time to drive to the NSW / Vic / SA border myself, but would like to see a such a photo.

Actually it was resolved by many floggings in the state of origin and then sealed by getting the premiership cup 3 times just for good measure

Looking at NATMAP Premium and checking with Google Earth I make the intersecting point to be at the River Murray, 34 01.13 s 141 00.00 e.

Please don't take offence. But why have internet forums become a haven for those that want everyone else to do the leg work.

There a several replies that indicate other have done some research. Like looking at a map or road atlas. Got on an internet site like Google earth.

What we would all do without internet forums to help those that can't do simple things like look at a map. I grabbed my Hema atlas and sepnt around 1.5 minutes locating the junction of the state borders you mention.

Its not rocket surgery...

. . . and that's how people learn to do new things or better things. Other people show them how.

If you don't want to help someone, then just move on to the next message, where someone isn't asking for help.

well genius perhaps some of us novice map readers arn't quite that clever and maybe i should have worded my question better, any dipstick can read a map but what we are looking for is if there is a post or somthing to signify this as the web sites i have been on such as Geoscience Australia do'nt actually say.
Where as Camerons Corner is well publicised there doesn't seem to be much on the one i am trying to find.
Oh and if you have to start a reply with (dont take offence)perhaps you shouldnt start in future!

Vince,
I think he wanted the location of the intersection of the three state borders which is near Mildura, similar to Cameron's Corner, not the quarantine "inspection" stations.

Hmmm...Interesting question.

At first I tend to agree with Sandman on the co -ordinates but now I have found the Todd Obelisk or Border Cairn which, I think, officially denotes where at least two states meet.

Rough co-ordinates are 33 56.547 South and 141 00.088 East or thereabouts. I have been looking at a 1:25,000 Riverlands map and it shows the dog leg in the SA/Vic Boundary clearly. What isn't so obvious is that the Murray River is very wide at the spot and although and the northern banks of the river have been taken for the Border Cairn. We are all aware however, that the Murray River is in NSW and that the border of all three states is actually on the southern bank of the river and the place that Sandman has pointed out.

I have tried doing some research on this on Google but it is going to be a long process...lol

The Murray is in NSW?
I had though the border was in the middle of the river?
Which could have meant no border post.
Interesting how the border web link above, did not name the intersection where all the other intersections have names.

Yep all of the Murray up to the South Australian Border is in NSW. This dats back to the mid 1800's. That is why you need a NSW Fishing or Boat licence to operate in the Murray from the Victorian side.

"In 1855, with borders in dispute, NSW enacted that the whole bed of the Murray River belonged to it— deeming the Victorian/New South Wales border as being the high water mark on the Victorian side. Victoria argued its right to joint ownership and free navigation, but never proved its case."

It's easy to pick the difference between Victoria and SA on aerial photos near the NW corner of Vic - Victoria is bush and SA is cultivated (with crops)

Go to http://imagery.maps.nsw.gov.au/#
then go to Scale: 1: 157,457 Latitude -34.019598 Longitude 140.998791
