Does anyone have recent info on Newnes Nat. Park. We are considering a weekend there later this year. I'll bet I get a quick answer as it is bucketing down here in Sydney so kids sport, shopping and working in the garden are all out leaving Exploroz as the best option. Me, I'm stuck inside laying tiles on the bathroom floor.
Thanks in advance

We went to Newnes about a year ago. A nice big grassy camping area, with a drop toilet and next to a shallow river with warm water in it. High cliffs asurround the area and it's a nice scenic spot. Easy & interesting walks up thru the ruins of the nearby old shale oil refinery. Our trip started at the ZIg Zag railway and from there up through the back road (forestry track), thru Black Fellas Hand. An easy dirt road with a couple of short 4WD sections. Then on to the the bitumen road continuing on to Newnes. Sparky

I was on the Black Fella's Hand Track last weekend.Track has degraded a lot and requires due care and attention. The last 10 klm to the Wolgan Rd is the worst. AND beware of the "death wish" trail bike riders.

Ian - It's actually Wollemi National Park, not Newnes. Newnes is the old town area within the park.

If that area, which stretches from there up to the Gardens of Stone DOES turn into a national park adjacent to Wollemi (as per the Wilderness Society idiots' wishes) then no-one will ever have 4WD access to that region again.
