Hi all,
I purchased a second hand full length cage type roof rack from ebay. The only branding on the side is "jorge". I have done extensive searches and haven't found any information on this brand (if it is the brand after all). Anyone heard of it?
My problem is that there are 8 points to clamp the roof cage to the gutter of my 80 series however 4 of the clamps are missing. As a result, at high speeds the cage begins to shudder and feels like it's about to take off. I have searched hi and low, all the major roof rack carriers and car specialists but haven't been able to find any suitable clamps that fit.
The annoying part is the clamps appear to be so simple. Without the aid of a photo let me provide a description.
Imagine... a square piece of steel 60mm x 60mm x 3mm with a right angle fold along one side about 10mm in (the part that fits under the gutter). Now, on the back, in the centre of the vertical part (remaining 50mm x 60mm) there is a rod welded which protrudes about 120mm past the top of the bracket. There is a screw thread on the end of about 40mm which connects to the cage with the assistance of a nut.
If anyone knows of such a part it would be great and will save me having to bend metal and buy an arc welder.
Cheers,
Alex

Hi Alex
I had the same prob with my 2nd hand full length rack I used 25X25mm approx 100mm long angle iron and welded a bolt vertically in the middle of the angle (long enough to go thru the tube on the rack) This clamps onto the gutter quite
well and was easy to make Hope this helps

Hi Alex,
The bracket sounds exactly like my 1994 model ARB roofrack bracket for my old 80 series. Check out my rig pic (I adapted the rack to suit my GU) and see if these brackets look the same - may need to magnify the pic. Anyway, give ARB a call and see if they still sell the old style clamps.
Cheers

ARB quoted me $25 ea for the brackets last time I called... I was chasing 8 and they said it was the cheapest they would do.
I went straight to my local fabricator after that price.

Maybe if you bought some steel and other parts you needed your local steel fabrication
shop may be able to make the brackets for you. For a 6 pack.
