Hi there Eric,

Sometimes even the 4WD folk get it wrong. (i.e. ME)

I tried three times to drive up a track once without success. The wheels just couldn't get a grip. Now, the problem here was that someone else in our convoy was immediately in front of me in a similar vintage Jack, except his was a diesel.
He went up without any dramas at all.

After the third failed attempt, I counted to ten and had a little think.
Oh, thats right, you need to place the auto transmission selector into neutral before you can shift into Low range. DUH!!!

I still have a chuckle over that now and again:-)))

Yep, or engaging 4wd and then wonder why you're not getting anywhere. Ummm, did I get out and lock the hubs in? No one saw this so it's a bit like a tree falling in the forest ;-)

I love it.

Had a geek at work get bogged. Asked if he had engaged the front hubs and just looked at me with that "oh I know not what you speak" face. He had no idea how to engage low range, despite the writing on the knob saying "lift". So I engage LR lock the hubs get it out of the bog and finish off by saying "stick to what you know and drive a computer"

Great you seem to turn an easy profit mate. I hope the guy doesn't learn about 4by transfer cases and you get another soon. Easy fix for profitable turnaround, well done.

Hi

A few years ago in Vietnam. Hired a 60 Series LC + driver to go to hill tribes market day.

First sign of a Muddy road and we were bogged. I watched as 1,001 locals tried to push the LC out. After a while I worked out that the front wheels weren't driving, only the rear wheels, so I said to the driver have you engaged 4wd? He gave me a silly look and said 4wd not working today.

Later on when on dry ground I looked underneath, would you believe the drive shaft to the front diff had been removed!

We didn't get to the hill tribes market that trip.

12 months later on another trip I hired another LC 80 series + driver to go to the hill tribe market day. This time I checked the LC out before we left and found everything in top working order.

You guessed it, the road was now bitumen all the way and I could have got there easily for half the price in a little Kia taxi.

Phil

Hi Eric,

Very funny - great buy! BTW I have been going to contact you for a while. Bought a MaxAir from you couple of years ago and I now want another one. Don't need hose, gauge, bag etc but I guess it all comes as a unit. What's the best price on one of these nowadays? If you still supply please email me at btlocumsatbigponddotcom.

Thanks mate

Mark

At work we have similar problems with people not used to 4wd. Along with the std transfer case and hubs issues, we hav had a number of instances where they have run out of fuel - not a lot of fun on an active haul road with 400 tonne dump trucks on it. 'but the guage still says full' - look at the other guage, see how that guage has 'sub' written on it, push the sub button, bleed the bugger, all is well. Makes you laugh though!

Cheers Andrew

PS didn't someone on here have a bit of a '2wd' moment with a Nissan sub tank system......LOL

I have heard of this method being used as a simple anti-theft device. When parking 4by get into habit of slipping the little stick into Neutral.

If some mongrel breaks in and tries to make off with it they might get it started but be just dumb enough to not work out how to get it moving. Given they are usually in a tearing hurry to depart the scene it might save your vehicle as they can't be stuffed spending the time to work it out.

Also great as a practical joke on convoy and club trips!

While someone is not looking at smoko just reach in and slip the lever to "N"

Cheers

Hehe, might be a good way to stop the missus from using the car to reverse into fences and gates etc as well. Might give it a go.

Anyone remeMber the German tourist bogged on the beach at Jurien somewhere.
He rang the police as he thought he was in a high tidal area after he looked at a map of Broome and surrounding areas.

When the police got there he showed them how he had been pressing the A/C button but it still wouldnt engage 4wd .
He thought A/C was for All Conditions LOL
