My son has just been posted there next Monday. I also thought it was a mistake, until I found mention of it on a webpage. Perhaps it's fairly new ? He's going with Theiss constructions.
I asked him if he was sure it was Mt Magnet and not
Iron knob...no he tells me thats not operating any more.
Maybe it's a misprint and he's actually going back to WA. He'll find out the details tomorrow but I wanted to poke around and see what's there...apparently nothing LOL

Iron Knob was an old iron ore deposit for BHP's
Whyalla steel works. With the current price for iron ore it could
well be on the cards to reopen. I have heard from rellies living there that the house prices and building have gone through the roof. SWMBO (born and bred crow eater) reckons there may be a Mt Magnet near Wirrabra. I've got no idea where that is ?

No
mine there.....it is a
hill that gives you the illusion that you are rolling uphill when you stop on it and allow the vehicle to sit in neutral and no brakes. It's just in the country....mid north area. Pesty would know it better than me.

Bill
Magnetic Hill SA is 23km from my house if thats any help.
There is a tin magnet advertising the site. One day a lady from
Melbourne complained that the magnet thing was a hoax as she tried to put a piece of metal against it and it did not work...hahahahahaha
When stopped on the preceived downslope with the car in neutral and the handbrake off, the car rolls backwards up the
hill.
It is an optical illusion

I have heard mention of a new Mt Magnet
mine, I don't know if there is any geological feature there 1000 ft above sea level, but am pretty sure it is in the geological area know as the
Gawler Craton. I think it is suppose to be a magnesium
mine, hence the name, but don't quote me on that. Thiess are doing a lot of industry/mining construction in this state at the moment.
Regards
Snowy

Ok mysetery is solved. The local blokes called it Mt Magnet but it isn't. They were apprently talking about Project Magnet near
Whyalla. So they get to live in company housing for 4 weeks. He's still unhappy, they wouldnt let him drive his new car down there as the flight is booked. I offered to drive it down and he can pay the airfair back...until I came to my senses.
Sorry for the confusion. Strange that the training web site also referred to a
Mount Magnet...
