I am looking at installing an in-line pump to my CT.
1. Have found one at Camec (Whale for about $60) and was wondering whether cheaper makes are available and if so where (live in
Brisbane).
2. At the moment I will only have power to run the pump when in
camp so I was planning on leaving the existing pull/push manual pump for use at other times (and in case the in-line pump fails). To do this I was thinking of installing a T piece in the existing hose from the
tank and then running the in-line pump on a separate hose to a second tap. Will the push/pull pump still work with this set-up?
Thanks in advance from the Moose.

Hi,
I have the little Whale GP99 in line pump in my camper trailer and it is great.
CLICK HERE and you will see a piccie of it as it is sold at Whitworths marine. I don't work for Whitworths but have found them to be
well priced at times.
I have
mine installed on the one
water line and you can still use the
hand pump if you need to so I haven't had to run a second line.
Great little pump. Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks Brian - I think that's the same one I saw in Camec but the price is certainly better. Are you saying that the standard pump will suck the
water through the in-line pump? And that the in-line pump will push the
water out through the standard fitting? I was thinking about the separate line as I didn't think it would work on the same line. But by the sound of it I may be able to get away with a simpler set-up.
Cheers from the Moose.

I haven't fitted my inline pump yet , but , I converted one of the 12v shower pumps to use on my CT.
Only use the one line. It will push out through the
Hand pump no problems at all , and if the lecky pump isn't working (like
mine did), the
hand pump still works fine.
IMO , you would need to have a shut off/tap , on the second line to stop the
water from trying to come out that way as
well.

Thanks flappa. That's great. Much simpler with just the one line and outlet. Will go with that.

Moose,
Yes our standard pump can suck the
water manually through the in line pump if required and when you operate the in line pump it will push
water out through the manual pump tap.
Easy to install and we have ours set up so that the infill side of the pump sits at the lowest point of our
water tank with the outlet side being a bit higher. This always keeps the pump primed and works
well for us.
Have a good one.

Moose, also , I dont think the Whale pump is self priming , so it would be MUCH easier to use on the same line as the
hand pump anyway.

Brian
As Flappa stated, the Whale is not self priming so needs to be below the level of the
water in your
tank. This may be an issue in itself with regard to being exposed to damage.
IMO you would be better off with a Shureflo as they can be mounted where ever. A bit more expensive but you will get a much better end result.
Cheers

Guys,
The one I have is not self priming but by having it installed as I do, gravity feeds
water into it and when we switch it on it draws the
water through immediately. Have had it for a year or so now on many trips and have never had to manually prime it.
Have a good one.

Yep..what brian said...Great little pump indeed. I do keep a spare incase as i did have 1 stop working about a year or so ago. But in fairness, i think the hose running into it had an air leak at the time causing it to over rev and burn out.

Try the Schurflo Whisper King - gutsy ,self priming and very quiet operation - been using on houseboats for 20 yrs. one on the ct and another under the bull bar to feed heat exchanger , gets dunked and covered in mud etc.

Jacqui has mentioned getting a pump in the Jayco camper, but my main concern is using more
water than we do with just the
hand pump. We use as little as possible, simply because it's a pain in the arse to pump into the sink.
When
bush camping, using too much
water to wash the dishes is silly.

I had similar concerns when installing the pump in our CT. Solved it by using a button push switch (old starter motor type) rather than an on/off jobby. That way it can't be inadvertently left running for too long.
