They had a 3.0 twin-turbo diesel 4 door sedan BMW that wasn't much slower than the V8 one.

It did over 140 MPH!!!!

Top Gear is my favourite show on the box. I guess the Beemer would sell for around $100k here and with the ever presence of Mr Plod, where could you drive a car like that except in the NT.

Oilers aren't what they used to be.

I have just been involved in buying a Peugot 307 touring wagon with my lady friend. It's only 1.6litres but turboed and goes like the clappers with that wonderful low down torque we all enjoy.

Oh and as an aside it gets.....and wait for it ...5.8Litres per 100KM. They have just completed a round OZ fuel consumption test and it used $550 worth of diesel - pump prices.

Hmmmmmmmmm John

Dunno about those figures. 5.8l/100km equates to around 17.2 km/l(fantastic). Divide that in to 17000km around the block and roughly you get to use a 1000litres. Now even at low diesel prices as we have here(LOL) $1.40lt, that makes it $1400.

Am I right or has there been some creative accounting?

Nevertheless it is still good value for money

Cheers

Perhaps around oz for them is Sydney - Wollongong - Perth - Midland return with some help from the sea breeze.

Still all the road tests on this vehicle seem to confirm the usage rate but will be interesting to see in a few months. I noted on the couple that i test drove, the computer read out was showing just over 7 L/100 but would expect that with 200km vehicles and being moved around wharves and yards etc.

Worth taking one for a spin tho and makes me really consider if I should have my backside in one of those for a daily driver and leave the truck in the shed until it's bush time. I must admit to driving around in my Mazda 121 Bubble for the last couple of months, don't ask me how I got that but lets just say it was the spoils of war from a relationship break down, and its refreshing to go to the pumps and fill it up for $30 and run for 450Kms before refilling.

Do a search on one of the paper's website's auto section - you'll find stories on a dude who drives peugeots diesels aroud oz for fuel economy records - he gets 70-80miles per gallon out of them - forget exact figures and which website, i'll see if i can dig it up...
