Sydneysiders, a good cruisy little drive is along the Colo River from
Putty Road (or even from Lower
Portland Rd), then turn left when the
sign points toward
Kurrajong (Comleroy Rd) then turn right at Mountain
Lagoon firetrail. Mountain
Lagoon itself is a gorgeous little cluster of farms and houses - make sure you drive Sam's Loop... Then back to Bell's Line of road - look out for the signposted fire trail to the right a km or three back toward
Sydney leading 10k's or so to a little
camping area (forget the name) ... after the
campsite keep heading back to
Kurrajong heights. Its all high range stuff and most soft roaders should manage, but fun enough, close to
Sydney and the scenery is spectacular..

"Its all high range stuff....."
It is a 2wheel drive road that I took the wifes lanser down last weekend.
A bit of History for you. Comeleroy Rd was along the first route of what is the
Putty Road first crossed by Parr in about 1821.

Cheers Vince -
I assume you are referring to Comleroy Rd, which definitely is 2wd, Mountain
Lagoon Fire Trail however is definitely 4wd, at least it was last weekend. I even had it in low range over a particularly eroded/rutted section of about 400m so i could get slow enough to stop the kids in the back getting thrown around so much ..... maybe the recent rains did it. A Honda HRV I came across was doing it particularly tough (I know, not much of an off-road vehicle, but I reckon a falcon/commodore would have buckleys of getting thru)
the Burralow Ck trail to the
camping ground would probably be ok in 2wd in dry, but lots of culverts/humps to drive over so a bit of ground clearance would be good..

Mountain
Lagoon in Autumn when the leaves are changing colour, a blanket on the grass, hard rolls and tasty cheese!
Sheer bliss.
An ideal family drive for those who's other half is not into hardcore driving.
Spot on RichieK - I was in the Mother In Laws good books for at least two days after that one.
