I have a pair of good quality sheepskins, i pulled them off yesterday and was wondering if i can put them through a machine wash?
Anyone know if this is safe or any other way of washing them?
cheers

Drycleaning is the safest way.

Otherwise you risk removing the preserving oils from the leather.

I washed ours in the bath- with luke warm water and stuff called 'Wool Wash' . Hang them in the shade to dry- not direct hot sun. The Wool Wash gets them good & clean- and leaves a slight fresh eucalytus smell.

Yep, I go along with that method. DO NOT USE HOT WATER or put in dryer.

Must be the time of the year for washing seat covers.

Had wash em in the trough with good old velvet bar soap or equivalent. Rinse them well and spin em dry if your washer will take the load.

Come up fresh as a daisy and apparently the soap leaves some oils behind in the leather as well, bit like Saddle Soap for horse saddles I guess.

I too have just washed mine. Genuine sheepskin, good quality.

Cold wash (slow gentle cycle) using Softly, rinse and then rinse again using one tablespoon of Glycerine. Spin out and hang inside out in the shade. When hanging hang horizontally. This reduces the weight that causes stretching.

Mine are 6 years old and still feel soft and smell OK as well.

Bung mine in the Fisher & Paykel on gentle with some some wool wash and presto like new.

Dry on a flat surface as you would a pullover.

Been doing that for years with no problems, unless the dog gets wind of the project and then most end up in smallish bits scattered around the garden.

Have fun............
