Hello all, Ron and myself are just about to
sign on the dotted line for a Tvan.I was wondering if any of our fellow ExplorOzers would share their experiences of their trips of where and not where to take it? We also have an oztent which we love but it would be great to have a little luxury once in a while. Also we have a standard 100 series no V8 or turbo.
Cheers marion

Just to let you all know Track Trailer has never gone broke and has expanded for the 4th year in a row. We have moved to bigger and better premises on Dorset Rd in the last 18 months to handle the increased demand (403 Dorset Rd Bayswater 03 87276100). We have expanded our range to include
off road caravans this year and are about to release a tent top trailer with boat carrying ability's. This year has seen Track continue it
services to the military and to commercial businesses through out Australia.
in answer to where can you take your Track trailer, you can take it down any track in Australia. If you contact the factory on the above number we can put you in contact with customers that have been down every track.

A mate took his TVan down the
Hay River (
Simpson Desert) with us last year. Handled all the dunes very
well - he was towing it behind a new TD Troopie.

Hi Marion, I took delivery of a Tvan Canning model (with a few extras) in May last year. Its a great unit and will go anywhere you can take a 4WD. I sleep better in the Tvan than I do at home.
I bought
mine hoping my wife would come away on trips with me. (I am mainly a bushwalker)
Unfortunately on the second day out on our first trip she said "don't think that I am doing this again"!
So I have a little used Tvan sitting on blocks in a garage, that I will probably sell. You can purchase it if you wish. You can call me on 0427 375 775.
Regards, Steven

I shall follow this thread with much interest. I also have an Oztent and looking at a T-Van. Main reason is to be able to "sneak" a
camp in some of the truck stops where putting up a tent is a bit obvious .. and more work if I get told to move on.
We (wife and I) have just done an around Oz trip of 37,500km and Oztented it everywhere very happily, but had to look a little harder for some
unofficial campsites.
I saw plenty of T-VANS in
places where I had to work hard to get an 80 series Landcruiser into (not towing anything). They had to work equally as hard, but were able to get the Tvan in there.
We travelled with some friends we made on the way who had a
Tambo, and it also took a fair beating and handled it without any fuss. But he broke his car (busted chassis and other stuff).
Having looked at all the others, T-Van is my choice for what we want to do in the future.
Jack

Hi Jack, I know what you mean this is the reason that we want a van so we can just pull onto the side of the road. I have been researching and looking for about 2 years and I keep coming back to the tvan. The guys at lets of
camping Tony and
Ross have been just great they are very helpful and they fo 4x4 and
camping. The factory has moved to a new location but is still in Bayswater. Ron and myself are like little kids at the moment can't wait until December to pick it up. Maybe we will see you soon with one. Cheers Marion

"Main reason is to be able to "sneak" a

Don't worry about putting up a tent in most truck stops. If you can handle the noise and you can get out of the way, then most truckstop owners I know (I know a few hundred) would not mind you pitching a tent so long as you put a few dollars into their tills when you stay there. Most have reasonable showers as
well but some you will have to shell out a few bucks for this convenience.
Cheers, Trevor.

I have a Track Desert Eagle camper trailer which has the same design chassis &
suspension (MC2) as the Tvan & I couldn't be happier with it's off road performance, believe me, it goes anywhere!

We have a Tvan (2001 model) and have camped through the
Pilbara ,Talawana Track, up part of the CSR (from
Well 23 to
Well 36) and across to the Alice a couple of times along the
Gary Highway, Jenkins Track etc. Love it. It is being towed with a 2005 Nissan, turbo with a 60L engel on the back of the ute. After the CSR trip last year and on our arrival in Alice we replaced both shockies on the Tvan. One shockie was just weeping after the corrugations from
Well 30 to
Well 33 and the replacement was more precautionary rather than necessary to see us
home. Love the space, the towability, the convenience of the
kitchen facilities, the ease of making and pulling
camp each day and the comprehensive dust seals. NO DUST gets inside! A big plus when you can go to bed each night without having to remake beds. Last year we travelled with 5 couples (and kids) and each day we stopped for cuppas, lunch and drinkies in late afternoon utilising the
kitchen slideout for preparation of snacks, lunches, bar facilities for the whole group. Worked brilliantly.

When my wife and I went around OZ we originally wanted a CT .
Saw the tvan at the camping 4wd show . These are the ones that are around $35G ?.
I think all my camping gear would come in under $5000.
Our swag has been out at a few sly camp sites with no probs , dont have to remake the bed.
Would want to do some thing very special for the extra $30G
For that much you could almost buy a second hand tray back and set it up for touring !
Glenn.

Hi Steve and Lorraine, thanks for this, we hope to do the CSR next year Ron has a concern that not having a V8 or turbo that we shouldn't take the Tvan on the CSR or
Simpson desert when we do it again. So pleased to hear that everything that it is supposed to be is so true. Cheers Marion

Hi Marion
The van & your vehicle will do it easy 16lb tyre pressure on the cruiser & 12lb in the van tyres will do the trick . Use some auto-skin over the van & car to stop the scatches from overhanging trees & shrubs & you should have a great trip.
Cheers Steve. Go to www.autoskin.com.au worth its wait in gold.

Hi Marion. We hired one for a month last year to go around the
red centre. I have no reservations about the build quality or off-road ability. Only things we didnt like:
- couldnt open the rear door fully because the T-Van brake componenets were in the way (hydraulic cylinder & lever).
- we had 2 adults & 2 kids and we thought it was too much of a squeeze for the kids (enough room for sleeping but there were clothing bags & food boxes everywhere at times). For 2 adults only it would be fine
- the overall setup seemed to be for good-
weather only with the kitchen fully exposed. we thought that even a simple pullout awning (with one side?) would be required so you could still use it on rainy/windy days
- we noticed that we used just so much more fuel than without a camper ... i know this is not specific to the T-Van

Marion,
If you have "barn doors" on the LC then you should consider a long draw bar on the TVAN to have enough clearance to open the LC doors. We have a short draw bar but a lift up back door on the Toureg so it clears OK. Had the Tvan three years - been great.
Check Site Link and there are plenty of posts re options etc.
