I am travelling in May through the Flinders ranges SA, Gammon Ranges,
OOdnadatta Track, Coober Pedy and back to Adelaide. Should be an interesting trip but I have been able to source only limited information on and are near Coober Pedy called the 'Breakaways". Has anyone been there? Is it worth seeing?

It sure is worthwhile and just look on the map, it is clearly marked.

Painted Desert/Breakaways are more than a side trip. Worthy of a couple of days, if you have time.Andrew - 1999 GU ST 4.2Turbodiesel Wagon

Definitely agree with the above responses. Both the Breakaways and the Painted Desert are well worth visiting. Did pretty much the same trip same time last year and had a ball.

David,
I've been there twice and never get sick of the scenery.Do the loop road back to Coober Pedy along part of the dog fence and you will come across a hill of Gypsum,we got some great samples it is laying everywhere.

David,
Did this last year. Left Coober Peedy and just drove until I saw the sign. Was a bit half hearted and thought why not. Still can't understand how something as unique isn't heritage listed. It is stunning. You think you are on the great flat plain that Austarlia mostly portrays, arrive and bingo there BELOW YOU is this magnificent sight. Do it and you will rememeber it forever. Why we don't know how to sell these sites I don't Know!

Regards

Garry.
