I just added this information "Many of his publicity expeditions appear to be more attuned to promoting his name rather than pedestrian issues and the basis of many of his anti-4WD arguments have been proven to be flawed by scientific experimentation."

Perhaps you would like to say something, Truckster?

I added:

His most well known recent idiocy involved a high profile ex-sportsman who unfotunately rolled backwards over his young daughter in their VW Toureg. Harold Scruby, being the heartless opportunist that he is, tried to use the incident to further his anti-4WD tirade, completely oblivious to the hurt and pain the people involved were feeling. Luckily the youngster survived and made a full recover, sadly so did Harold.

On my trek around Oz I took delight in photographing many signs in SA and WA towns which clearly state ... "Pedestrians must give way to vehicles" .....

I must send him a few prints.

We are taught as youngstrers to look both ways before crossing a road, and give way to vehicles. We are taught as drivers to give way to pedestrians. It is this conflict where no-one is right or wrong that is at the center of most fatalities. Both hesitate, then both move....

Rule 67 (4) of Australian Road Rules stipulates:

(4) If the driver is turning left or right or making a U–turn, the
driver must also give way to any pedestrian at or near the
intersection on the road, or part of the road, the driver is
entering.

None of these signs were for turns - just thoroughfares. The narrow streets in Subiaco were one place of interest. You do get a pedestrian refuge.

"...If a child runs out onto the road during a left turn are the drivers still wrong???..."

"...GaryInOz ...... quite simply, YES!..."

Death by misadventure. Not even manslaughter....
4YO child ran out from the "blind side" of a pram/stroller, driver facing a left turn arrow.

(That was my jury duty about 7 yrs ago in QLD...I kind of know a bit about the scenario)

This is what I mean by a grey area, due to the differing treatment of the physical accident locations and situations as they occur by the judges and the juries. Not as "black and white" as you may be lead to believe, more "light grey and dark grey"

Doug T, what an absolutely stupid comment, did you think of that on your own or did you need help?
So in your opinion, pedestrians, including yourself, have no right to cross roads?

Shaker
It is not a silly remark.I didn't have to think to hard about something that is 100%correct and where did i say pedestrians have no right to cross roads.A pedestrian might have a right to cross a road and a vehicle also has a right to use the road , so what I am saying in a round-a-bout way that your not capable of interpreting is that a pedestrian must show caution, I do expect you to understand that a pedestrian can come to a full stop in one step , I was taught by my parents to look right and left and right again and give way and wait for cars, when the stupid rule of giving pedestrians right of way that's when people started getting killed more often, there should be no such thing as an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing. In Mt Isa this is what they are doing and it works every where else in the Town ,See that makes a pedestrian be more aware of the danger instead of just walking out onto the and hope the car/truck/roadtrain stops, and don't say it does not happen, I had a silly woman in Sydney walk out in front of my semi and she did not even look and i had a hell of time trying to stop but if I had hit her i would have been the one in trouble so mate I would strongly suggest you wake up to your self and come down into the real world.

From the North West Star
CARS will have the right of way over pedestrians when the zebra crossing on Simpson Street is scrapped.
It will be replaced by a crossing identical to those in the central business district where traffic comes before people.
Details of the Simpson Street north redevelopment preliminary plan were announced at a council meeting last week.
Council approved the plan which allowed for the final construction design to go ahead.

I also forgot to add that what i see in the big Cities is people who just can't wait for the red don't walk light to change to green walk, I even see people press the button as they walk past the red light straight out across the intersection, now if one of these morons gets hit they are the first one to complain and the pedestrian council would support them, if they get booked they complain,if you honk the horn at them you get the finger, there would be no problems at all if people used the crossings correctly and yes Shaker I do wait for the WALK sign, do you....I doubt it very much.

QUOTE: "Roads are made for Vehicles not pedestrians"
---------------------------------------------------------------

What didn't I understand about that?
Pedestrians have to use the road when there is no footpath & should give way & be respectful of all vehicles, however if they are crossing the road at an intersection they have right of way, whether you like it or not!

As far as pedestrians that cross against the red light, they should be prosecuted to the same extent as a vehicle that goes against a red light.

If anybody has his fax number, why not send him a 'revolving fax'....you know, where you get about 4 sheets of A4 paper sticky-taped together in a loop. It won't prove anything but will run his machine out of paper as it tries to print-off an endless list of incoming faxes. hahahahaha

Anyone willing join me on the 40k's there and 40K's back?

Don't even bother with the public transport thing either.

How 'bout a "all kangaroos get out of the way" day, now THAT would make my life easier. :)

As I have posted on here many times - amazing what "one guy and a fax machine" can do. Greenies have been doing it for years as well. How many various "foundations, associations, centres, institutes" are there for conservation.

I am not anti-conservationist, but there are so many of these crappy little organisations out there that are no more than a fancy letterhead and a fax machine pumping out "Press`Releases", all competeting for scarce funding. I sometimes wonder if any real conservation work takes place. All these people seem to be doing a lot of the time is justifying their own existence!!!

Rant for the day now done!
