Hi Everyone,
We are looking at buying a new Jayco Expanda full van with the outback option. We drive a new Pathfinder and are looking at some doing some light offroad trips with the kids and wanted to know what others think of the outback option and would the standard model be suitable for some light stuff?
Thanks in advance,
Tom.

Tom
We have a standard 18Footer and although it tows like a charm on dirt roads ie graded dirt roads, it would not travel to
well on light off road. It sits fairly close to the ground and when you go thru small creeks etc the back legs scrape, I would have if not for storage problems , got the extra height of the outback, we normally make a base
camp somwere and tour off from there. the other thing that concerns me is although they call them outback, it is only the
suspension that gets upgraded and all the internals are the same so gear goes every were inside the cupboards no matter how
well you think you batten it down. But dont be put off they are a great fun van, plenty of room and good value for money, enjoy life
Cheers
Roger

Thanks for the feedback Roger. I think we will go with the outback option, the chassis is also beefed up a little. I agree with your comments about the interior but I think the extra high and chassis is worth it.
Thanks again for the feedback,
Tom.

Hi Tom,
I have a Expanda 16.49.1 Outback with simplicity
suspension and like you I travel on dirt roads. I would definately recommend off road set up as the standard is very low and definately will scrape the back end of van when going over humps.
You may want to check out our website and get some more feedback from other expanda owners

Have you thought of a Windsor Rapid
The solid top roof over the bed area is a lot better than canvas. Having camped with both the Rapid is overall a better quicker setup. In rain Jayco Expanda is a problem.
We have taken our Rapid on dirt roads. If corrugated let the tyres down 4 to 5 psi.
Truth be known you see no outback/offroad vans off road. You get to
places that are a bit offroad and find standard vans and generally Evernew,
Roma, older Jayco, Windsors and Millards.

Thanks for the info, we have looked at the rapid but we like the layout of the ayco and the Rapid does not have a shower/
toilet model in the range.
Thanks again to everyone for the feedback.
Cheers, Tom.

Hi,
First time user so hope this is the correct protocol.......asking a question in this way.
We are on the verge of purchasing a Jayco Expanda Full van ( bogie axle).
However we are trading in a full size van, so we are used to having no issues with wind and rain etc
Am slightly concerned at the "sleeping under canvas" idea, however am assured by the sale guys that with the fly's added, there is no problem.......do you have any real life experiences with the weatherproofing of the Expanda's ends?
Also, like a good nights sleep, .....what is the comfort of the beds like ? you never can really tell by laying in them for 5 minutes in a sales yard.
Thanks in advance
