Hi all OR NOT

I'm probably asking a silly question and I'm sure there is a few forums that you guys know of ,that I should be on(PLEASE TELL ME ANY ) but I will ask anyway .....

I'm buying a caravan and I'm about to pick it up from Victoria (I'm in SYD) its new so I'm not sure of the things I should take down with me that is directly related to caravanning so we can use the van for a few days on the way home as a test trip .
I will be taking a Kettle ,toaster, double bed sheets and I believe I need a sullage hose and a drinking water hose but I just don't want to forget something Important that I would have at home or am able to buy now instead of rushing around in a unfamiliar town. I hope I don't sound like too much of a goose but any help would be great so I hope to hear from some veteran vanners soon THANX IN ADVANCE.

regards J.B.

Johnny Boy,

Check out these sites.

ABC for Kids

or alternatively you could go out side and play in the sand pit.

This is a site for big people and your mummy will be very cross with you for coming here.

Now be a good boy and GET OUT OF HERE

G'day Ian,

Every school holidays, Johnny Boy gets on here and puts up dribble posts.
If we abuse him enough, he'll go out in the back yard to play instead of playing with Daddy's computer.

Cheers

There are a number of forums on the web but generally this place is pretty good, you do get the odd "interesting comment"

The van place should have things like sullage hose and water hose.

Make sure you don't use ordinary garden hose for your water supply as it will taint the water.

You may need a load levelling hitch depending on your tow vehicle and the van but again the van place should be able to fix you up with that. You will almost certainly need a few things like wheel chocks, ramps to level the van. or some flat wooden blocks to run the wheels up on

Make sure that you have at least one of the gas bottles filled up.

Make sure that they demonstrate how to put up the awning, run the fridge and cooker. Don't leave till you know how to operate the van.

Thanx Notso that's the kind of feedback I was hoping for and I will look into them ASAP ,its just that the wife and I are used to camping with the kids and I just thought Id make the most of picking up the van and stop a couple of times on the way home as a bit of fun and a test.

thanx again ....J.B.

Good Idea, what type of van is it?

If you are interested there are a number of caravan clubs in and around Sydney. There are a lot of people who have been caravanning for years and they are a great resource.

www.caravanclubsnsw.asn.au/find_a_club.htm

There is a list of the clubs at the link

Enjoy the van.

Try groups.msn.com/Caravanersforum/, or maybe " target="EOF" class="lbg">www.supertramp.com.au/forum/.

Hope these are of some help.

I am not a virgin nanner, but like you, I am awaiting delivery of a new van and also have to travel to pick it up and at the moment my 4wd is full of boxs packed into the back that we are taking to fill up the new van.

I will be buying new hoses and 15 amp lead from the dealer and the rest of the gear I have (hopefully)

Good luck with the new van.

Hi JB

When we went to Qld to pick up our van, we intended on sleeping in the swag on the way over (plan changed due to rain), so packed our box of camp cooking/utensils, same as if we were camping with a tent. We keep an Engel in the car, so took food supply as well. To come home with the van, we had everything we needed. I don't know if you're buying new or second hand, but ours being second hand, the people we bought it from filled the water tanks which more than lasted the distance, and the gas bottles were both fairly full (did our next trip as well).

We had the electronic brake gizmo fitted before we left, but had to buy caravan mirrors. We had an 8 pin plug fitted - but got Qld and found 8 pin there was a different size, so a bit of rushing around to the auto shops to get something that would match.
