If you were coming from Albury, which way would you travel to the Flinders and where would you stay?
Will have Kanga Camper plus tent if needed. Do not need power and not looking for the last word in luxury.
Have never been to this part of the country, so are looking forward to leaving next weekend.
Regards Mike

South.
Or more seriously; down the Hume to
Melbourne, buy a Citylink Day Pass and follow the
Monash Freeway (tollway?) all the way to the end where it stops being a freeway and becomes the Dandenong - Hastings Road, continue through to Hastings and follow the coast road to Flinders.
Can't really help with
places to stay but Point Leo (10 or 15km north of Flinders) has a caravan
park situated, more or less, on
the beach. It's a lovely part of the world - enjoy.
Make sure you take the road up to Arthurs
Seat and then down towards the Mornington Peninsula freeway at some point (clear day) the
views are magnificient.
The RACV does a book listing caravan parks and
camp grounds in Vic.

On the other hand... If you mean the
Flinders Ranges then I wouldn't go that way at all.

Old Mike2,
If I was travelling from Albury, I would go thru to
Broken Hill & over to Perterborough to the Ranges. From there you take your pick to where you want to go.
Great way to go.

How about along the Murray Valley Highway to
Mildura, into SA and on through the Riverland over to
Morgan, then up to
Burra and on to
Terowie...... stop.
IF you are equipped for remote area travel, you could take the barrier highway to
Yunta, swing left and then across the badlands and up to
Balcanoona....
Arkaroola is then only a hop, skip and jump further.
OR
If not into remote area travel, left at
Terowie, up to
Peterborough,
Carrieton,
Hawker and on to
Copley. Chuck a right and drift on to
Balcanoona once again.
I would suggest the latter route has a lot more re interesting
places along the way.
Variation to the
Copley route above......
At
Hawker, turn right and go up through Wilpena, and
Blinman to
Balcanoona.
So many good
places to
camp in the last two scenarios - too numerous to mention I'd say.

Follow the river to S.A. , then hang a right , we loved
Burra ,great service in Peterborugh hardware store for gas bottle refills [cheapest gas refill anywhere] ,need a bl--dy big hammer to get the pegs in at the Pound
camp area ..enjoy the trip.

OldMike 2, I would suggest, as others have done, go via
Morgan,
Burra,
Peterborough & return via
Broken Hill. We found Wilpena a very agreeable
camp
site & suitable for day trips base, but plenty of other
places available. Stayed at
Angorichina one night, fairly ordinary. There are
bush camping possibilities but again, security is a bit of a problem if you go away during the day. Skytrek is
recommended. Enjoy your trip...oldbaz.

I prefer to take the Riverina Highway from Albury thru Finley, Deniliquin,
Moulamein and Kyalite - less traffic and nice straight roads. You'll find it significantly quicker than the Murray Valley Highway.
Then
Mildura,
Renmark, Waikerie,
Burra etc
