Moggs
Planning on taking the family for a week of non-offroad beachside
camping and also a look along the GOR. Looking for 'holiday
park'
camping accommodation in either
Port campbell / Warnambool as a base.
Came across the Surfside Holiday
Park www.surfsidepark.com.au at Warnambool while doing a search. Has anyone stayed here? Is it a good
park for kids and a good base for having a look around? Is there a better place to base ourselves? I note there are some nice
places at
Lorne - just a bit to far away from the rest of the GOR 'sights' for day trips with the kids.
Any info from those 'been there done that' greatly appreciated.

I can highly recommend the Henty Bay Beach Caravan
Park at
Portland.
They have everything from very good cabin accommodation to very secluded
bush camping spots.

Portland is a good two hours from
Port Campbell mate. There is one CVP at
Port Campbell, two at
Peterborough, the footy ground at Princetown over summer, not many facilities there though. Jubilee
Park at
Allansford, several CVPs at Warrnambool, and
Port Fairy.
Port Fairy being abot one hour from
Port Campbell. Mate, give me a call.

Moggs,
you'd need to book soon to get into
port campbell, many locals migrate there for part of the summer, there is a good fourby track starting at the princetown one!!!

John, will try and call you later today for a chat.
Portland is probably to far west - was thinking Warnambool would be ok though to base trip from. Only 50kms to
Timboon as far as I can tell?
Nick, we are planning on leaving this Sunday and returnintg to
Melbourne the following Sat. Was hoping that it wouldn't be too busy as it is outside school holidays and mid-week.

Theres a great cheap place at Curdievale Rd
Timboon to stay Moggs and one at
Grey St Terang too I believe....
Surfside is great for kids, directly opposite THE best playground in Western Victoria and at this time of the year quite quiet.

Hows it going Moggs ,
I stayed there 2 years ago for a couple of days. They had really grassy
camp spots a few BBQ s around the place and nice amenities. Very short walk to lots of beach .
It was around this time of year and there was hardly anyone staying there .I actually had a few good days there.
The next place we camped was at
Lorne, and where we stayed was crap , it was just a mud pit . I am not sure if there is more than one
camping area there, the one we stayed at was on the left going out of town towards
Melbourne. A guy I know said he had a really
good camp there ?
Hope this helps you .
Glenn.

Lorne at Cumberland River, also
Wye river and
Apollo Bay too

Have heard that the Cumberland river
park is good - however flappa got his campertrailer flattened in a windstorm there - apparantly its in a gorge and is a bit of a wind tunnel??? A bit far away from the other things we want to do though.
Thanks for the info Glenn D - looking like we will give Surfside a go.
Nick, sorry to hear about your wayward wheel. Happenned to Peter McG a while ago - he is collecting info on the number of
wheels that have come off and is hoping to get Nissan to do a recall (I think). Black rims look good.....and don't fall off!

Moggs,
Sites were OK, not overly huge, from memory they had plenty of shade, clean and grassy.
Enjoy!

Hey Moggs. Seen them, walked through and driven past a lot of caravan parks down that way but never actually stayed there. But I can recommend a very remote spot if you end up feeling that way during the week, stayed there many times in last 20yrs, hard to describe but is between Glenaire and Horden Vale.
Have fun!

There is a great
park at Narrawong just east of
Portland. We have been there twice now. Nice people and close to
the beach.
