I noticed a guy trying to sell his book on this forum today and contacted the moderator, i feel this forum is not the place to try and sell stuff. David the moderator agreed and removed the thread quick smart, well done David.
The last thing we need here is people stealing this site for their own goals.

Well done David.

I saw that earlier today at work and thought I may check it out when I got home.

Now where do i go?

It sounded all right and sounded relevant to the site. I don't think it was a bad thing.

Looking for adventure.

Once the door is opened its hard to shut.
NO this forum is not for folk selling ANYTHING. The moderator obviously agrees.

The guy could take out an ad with the EO site and possibly add a link here, thats fine i guess, but not sell direct from a forum, thats not fair to the legitamate traders here or us members.

IMHO.

Do you feel really good about your deed?
I think you perhaps have a complex.

The correct thing would have been to politely advise the author that there was another section on ExplorOz where he could attract interested parties.

Me, I saw the thread and thought nothing negative of the gentleman "promoting" his first foray into writing.

Well done indeed and boo to you!

Bill

Sand Man (SA),

perhaps you would like Bill S (NSW) to come back????

This is probably why David has had to harden up the rules a bit. It is only fair that what applies to one person should apply to everyone...

I don't have any opinion on the merits of the book itself, but clearly the forum is not the place for an advertisment for it. If the person had been on this forum for any length of time they should have realised that. If they are a "very new" contributor (joined today for the intent of advertising on the forum) they have learned a very quick lesson on etiquette (ie., DON'T SPAM FORUMS).

This place is a commercial enterprise. David and Michelle make their living from it.

If it was mine, I certainly would not tolerate free advertising.

Advertisers are able to ply their trade as they have paid for that right. Having said that, advertisers who step over the mark and make patently untrue claims get cut off. I respect that; paying to advertise does not give anyone the right to misinform the contributors/members/visitors here.

No.

Perhaps you should.

I have no possibility of financial gain from any posts I make to this forum, indeed they cost me money for the time.

You have a business selling things which are pertinent to many of the people here - that's fine - but you should consider contributing.

I totally agree with you on two conditions
1. You can point to ONE occsion where I have had ANY financial gain from this forum.
2. You can point to ANY occasion where I have received more from this forum than I have contributed.

It seems to me that you take great delight in being painful, Mike.
Now go ahead and address the two points above.

You can't, can you Mike ?

Most here are unaware of any commercial activities I conduct, or of any charity work I do, or of any other areas in which I am active.
Those who are, have worked it out without any assistance from me.
I have never pushed a barrow here, nor would I. On occasions I have offered HELP which is usually FREE as a service to my fellow 4wders.
In fact I often keep away from topics that I note you jump right into in case my posts are misconstrued.

If any of my commercial activities impinged in any way on my posts then I would gladly take your advice.

But as they have no relevance whatsoever, I feel no compulsion to take your advice.

Mike, if you MUST have a go at me for your own ego or whatever, please raise a valid point, and be prepared to follow through with a well thought out debate.

2 Nothing special, like most people.
3 I post here so that people can have a go at me.

Mike I can actually remember a past statement from you that said "Why would I contribute my expert advice for free on here when people actually pay me for it"

I guess that sums up your meaningful contributions to this forum other than those posts designed to inflate your self centered ego by belittling others.

So feel free to save your money then Mike, nothing you have posted has made a worthwhile contribution.

To use your words, Over to you Mike................

John I worry about you.

You have become fixated with this intense dislike (hatred perhaps?) of me and it’s not healthy for you. Additionally it is not productive: you won’t stop me posting and your insults are like water off a ducks back; so not only does it generate stress for you it is ineffective too.

To carry such bitterness for so long can cause all sorts of health problems from high blood pressure to cancer. Try to let it go John, just move on. Life is _far_ too short and this is only the internet, it’s not real life :)

For the record I did send him a messaging indicating to speak to Jackie about the title as we could be interesting in loading it to the shop or failing this we could provide him with a basic advertising campaign.
