The current drought is all over the news everywhere at the moment. Just wondering how dry it is around your place. For example, we have all heard the expression that it is as dry as chips or the immortal saying by Barry McKenzie that he was as dry as a dead
dingo's donga. I was talking to John R & Moses recently and the area around
Timboon is so dry that the cows are producing powdered milk.
So how dry is it around your place?

No rain in
Katherine yet.
I hope we don't get wet feet again like we did in April.
The Mangos are almost ripe and the Barra are on the bite.

I don't get why
water restrictions in the cities are not brought until way too late. When theres no
water, who cares about washing a damn car?

here here.....
the other day when bracksie announced the possibility of sending recycled
water to the power stations he immediately said that
water restrictions would be eased. Shows where his priorities lie, ok,
melbourne would have 25% more
water for use. that
water could be used to produce '000s of tonnes of food providing a much needed boost to rural economies.......oh, yeah, not enough votes in the country to worry about it.....
I do sympathise with people who can no longer hose their path, brooms are so expensive.........

Yep... level 2..... in what might be the worst drought ever? Why not IMMEDIATE institution of the highest restrictions?
They should try
tank water for a while.... then really appreciate
water shortage.

Sorry will be unable to send any by air freight.
You are welcome to visit and get your own.
The build up for the wet has started and it is getting hotter and more humid. I can't wait for the wet. I don't know why most tourist come up here in the dry. The wet is the best time of the year.

Stop it, you are making me homesick for the storms again! We lived in the top end for 6 years.
At least in my current job I get to visit
Darwin 4-5 times a year, but my last three wet season visits I didn't even see rain.
"Where are the storms?" I ask - "Ya shouldhav been here yesterdy mate"

I yearn for the thunderstorms of the Top End,
camping out under a giant tarp at Xmas and 4x4-ing in the mud and endless bogs and winching and running around in thongs in the bush. 20 years north of
Adelaide River was a good time but I know why I left....it got too bloody hot for me. Now I complain about the cold down south. Maybe one day I shall return............................

Getting bloody noisy now. The thunder pales in comparison with the low flying antics of the sky jockeys getting in some last minute practice before the weekend airshow :))))
It's the one weekend I don't venture out on the local roads. Too many bloody tourists trying to drive and watch the airshow at the same time LOLOL

My rainfall total this year is 266.7mm. The highest month was Jan with 61.3mm
so far this month 2.4mm with another 1mm so far today from a shower or two.
Yearly avg here is 550mm so we are a fair way behind

That's about 200mm more than we've had this year. I have lived here for over 4 years now and last year was the wettest when we got about 35% of the annual average rainfall.
I wouldn't say it's dry here but I watched a dog the other day lift his leg a give a tree a dusting.
If a dog does manage to squirt something all the other trees chase him down the street.

Having spent the weekend up at Barkly at Blues place, I can tell you I've never seen somewhere so dry... not even a nuns.
The moment you break the surface dust, it turned to talcum powder type dust.. and just kept gettin deeper and worse.
Went for a ride round the mountains near there and lookin round everywhere you could just see dust clouds to see where cars were going.
Crazy shizzle..
Sadly I dont think we will ever get over this drought back to how it was 15-20yrs ago.
