Hi, has anyone travelled the colson track recently from
Alice Springs down eventually to Innaminka. Would be interested in hearing about it as we are planning a trip for next April/May. Thanks

I tried to get a permit from the Central Lands Council for the Colson Track in June this year.
I got a one line reply "The Colson Track has been closed therefore I cannot issue a permit"
Perhaps if we keep banging on the door they may let us in one day.
Good luck.

The Colson Track has been closed for about 5 years now, ever since land was returned to Aboriginal Custodians.
You can, however, drive more than half of the track from the French line until you get to the narrow piece of Abriginal Land it crosses over.
Then again, you could just drive the track and take a chance on being seen but I am not advocating that.
To me, the track, which I drove in 1993, isn't all that interesting as it follows the dune corridor to the south. There were lots of
wildflowers out at that time and at Numery Dam we found about 100 scrub hens and this lifted our perceptions a bit but overall it was a boring trek.
Cheers

Did it in 2003, went from Numery and out their back fence. We had the same problems with permits . One lot I rang did not even know where it was. I rang one of the pollies at Alice and he informed me that it was a public road and that i did not require a permit. I asked would he support me if i was caught? He said yes he would. We went down through Numery, with permission. Bit hard to find the
gate out of their property as the track is mostly overgrown and the
gate is only a mallee
gate along the fence. (I do have the co-ordinates somewhere) It is easy to get lost on the tracks out from the station
homestead , but with good maps and GPS you will work it out.
If I were you I would ring Nunery station and suss them out on the posibilities, they were helpful to us at that time.

We drove the colson some years back, after it was closed. Rang the guy at Numery and asked about the clousure and he said to come out and he would point us in the right direction, which he did. Took him a bottle of port for his trouble. I thought that it was agood drive and there were plenty of wild flowers out. Agree with other posts, not hard to be unsure of your position out there.
Cheers, Nev
