Hi all,
Starting tomorrow K Mart have the Coleman Hot water Units for sale for $289.00 without accessories.
Does anyone know if I can get one any cheaper in the Sydney area. I went into Rays in Campbelltown on the weekend and they were $399.00. So I was thinking that this could be a good buy $110.00 off what others are selling them for.
Also does anyone have the carry bag for them and are they worth the extra money? and what shower attachment do you use, I've read previous threads and people mentioned changing the shower nossel. Which nozzel do you use.

Opinions or suggestions please

Cheers Kev

Seems a good price. The bag for us is great. Protects the unit during transport. I got mine from Rays with bag and gas hose and shower attatchment for $329 about 6 months ago.As far as the shower attachment goes it is a bit short and i have heard of people lengthening them. Or just use a canvas shower bag.

We get lots of use from ours and would really be lost without it.

I have a couple of canvas shower bags so that may be an option. I think that I'll end up just getting the bag and the gas hose.

The gas hose hasn't been used by us yet. You get 150 lt from one of the coleman canisters which is about the battery life too i think. I have never had the battery go flat on me, always charge it up before you store it.

We have one too and love it. The only comment I would make is it would be great if it were just that little bit hotter so you could make a HOT cup of coffee - rather than just warmish....

If anyone knows any tricks to this, I would be very interested.

Do you drink it with or without milk??
When I go bush I drink my coffee black, drinking it black may allow the coffee to seem hotter.

I haven`t tried it, but what would be the result if you put water through that was already hot , I reckon it would get hotter. ????
I am going to try it next time I set mine up. Thats if I remember!

From the Coleman site:

"Integrated safety features include automatic shut-offs when water temperatures exceed 160 degrees or the unit tips over"

There is no way mine heats to 160 degress. Web site version says it is available from Jan 07 - and there is a picture of it pouring into a cup!! I am wondering if it has chnaged.....bugger if this is so - I have only used it twice..

I would think mine gets to 70ish - short of boiling..

A - found where you were looking Pat - says 160 degrees F - which is 71 degrees C....ie no change in version.

If you recycle the hot water through the unit the high temp cutout operates.

Shower unit is great, the new shower heads come with a 2.4m hose, we have the old shower head & 1.2m hose, which, as we put the unit on a stand it is ample length. I assume that as with any water hose, the longer it is, the greater the wall friction & less flow.
The only thing I am disappointed in is the bag, it nearly doubles the size for transport. I would rather have a smaller bag, & store spare bottles elswhere.

It's good to know that the hose length has increased. I may well change my mind from comments above and get the attachment as well.

thanks Kev

Not seen this model in the flesh befor, I went to the Coleman site and it talks about small gas canisters, can this be replaced by a hose to my gas bottle? How long do the canisters last? are they disposable or can they be refilled (I suspect not)

The gas bottles last for about 10 - 12 showers, I wouldn't buy one until the gas hose was available, but as the 'disposable' bottles are so convenient & make the unit so portable, I didn't even buy one.
I have purchased, from the US, an adaptor for filling the 'disposable' bottles from a 4.5 or 9 kg bottle.

I have the attachment that goes straight to normal gas bottle. Haven't tried it yet as I also got 2 cannisters to try to see how long they lasted.

Must be a tight arse as well ,

Boiling billy of water in a 15 lt bucket gives 2 showers with the expensive $17 Supercheap shower .

If I am going camping I dont expect everything to be 'on tap'

Brilliant piece of gear. One question on how to use - we put intake and shower head into bucket - turn it on till water in bucket is at desired temp.
HOWEVER, when ready to shower -
1. if used in the shower tent, the unit can get wet when showering (yes I could use the plastic raincoat but hey, like to keep it simple - read lazy).
2. I worry that the heat from the flame could cause the shower tent fabric to ignite.
3. Selecting COLD - so it just turns on the pump and not the heater, is a bit tricky.

So - am thinking of heating the water in the bucket outside the shower tent, then leaving the unit outside, and using our Dick Smith/Jaycar 12V pump/shower inside the tent.

How do others use theirs? Am I missing something?

Put the unit on a table outside the tent, or as suggested further up heat the water and use a canvas shower bag.

I do the same as Brew69, small table just outside the shower tent, why would you stuff about with a $25.00 DSE shower, when you have a $400.00 Coleman one?

As far as I'm concerned all that using a big gas bottle does is make it less portable & more cumbersome to use.
