About time they announced this.

Looks like a replacement for Jack is not far away. Pity about only the petrol version initially but that's life. It could be LPG compatible.

Could get a few sales from the Toyo and Nissn soft roaders, especially if the 33" and rock crawler transfer case is offered at a reasonable price.

Yes, I've been waiting for something decent from the General to upgrade from the Jack.

But there is a couple of big BUTS!

A 3.7 litre inline 5 cylinder petrol doesn't sound too cool to me.

"A diesel version could also be offered at a later date".

Where do the marketers get their input from?
They did the same with the release of the VE Commodore.
Great car but not having a diesel was a "crime" when it is currently all the rage (for good reason) in Europe. By the time they get their act together, Toyota and Ford will have jumped in and stolen valuable sales from Holden by offering a diesel option.

I was looking forward to the introduction of the mid-sized Hummer H3 but if I have to wait another three to four years for a diesel option, I just may have to give the General the flick. Then I have the further problem whether to go "T" or "N".

Maybe I'll just hang on to the Jack for a while. Its only done 110,000k's.

Another BUT for you. Its a posers car with a Hstyle body on an exsisting chevy 4x4 chassis. The original H was function over form. It will be rubbish off road and use fuel like a tank. It will be perfect for poofters wanting to cruise chapel st on sat night dragging their cronies at the lights.

Holden should just bring back the good old 186, yeeeeeeha. Pushed my old (pre vehicle) 2A long wheel base Landy around for 20 odd years. Never missed a beat.

The engine is actually a 3.5L engine, not 3.7 as in the article. Currently all H3 Hummers are 5 cyl petrol without a diesel option in any market, so I doubt Aus will be the first place to get a diesel.

But any vehicle with a factory 33" wheel option, ~3.7:1 low range option and electric rear diff lock should have some pretty good offroad performance. I have driven the H2 when in the USA and have seen plenty of H3's, they now account for nearly 75% of all Hummer H1/2/3 sales in the USA. Pretty claustrophobic feeling initially when driving, the windows are very small, but hey, its a Hummer...

Further information is that the pricing will be in the $60,000+ bracket.

A Bummer for the Hummer!

They wont sell heaps of them at that price.

The engine for 2007 is actually 3.7, upgraded from the current 3.5. GM has a 3.7 version of the Vortex engine in everyday use in other vehicles so this change is a no-brainer.

If pricing is based on US pricing, from about $20,000-40,000 it would mean pricing here from 27,000-54,000 using a direct currency conversion of .75 That will be the interesting part. If it's $60000 plus, they are dreaming, but I fear the marketers will attempt to profiteer.

If that was the price range, I'd have one in a flash, regardless of the opinion of the phantom above. Even at say $55,000 for the full house one with big wheels and off-road gears it would be tempting, and lots would be sold.

Good to hear it wasn't a typo, hopefully the 3.7 is tuned for bottom end torque, not top end power. And hope the 4 speed auto becomes a 5 speed auto in 2007. Add in the off-road necessities of optional 33", rear locker and lower low range and it would be one of the best 4WD's out of the factory. Approach and departure angles are great, but the down side is IFS front end and LEAF rear end. Another worry is GMH coming out with a high price tag then dropping $5K 6 months down the track. At least they refunded the Adventra (?) owners when that happened

Too true - although Ford has slashed the price of a few of its models just lately by $6000 odd, but they didn't refund anyone. :)

I agree it's a bit primitive with the leaf/torsion bar setup but a mate's 98 V6 Rodeo is the same and it goes everywhere sane mortals want.

It'll be impossible to buy anything without IFS soon but at least you can crank the bars a bit and get more clearance and it's easy to get a rear lift as well. Then the 35's should fit nicely....and may be legal as well.

That does put the beasty in a league of its own

This statement is the funniest i've ever seen.

"The H3 is designed to deal with extreme conditions which local off-roaders enjoy and seek out.

Mr Bately has obviously never seen one off road or read any of the overseas forum about them.

The Hum Vee on the other hand is a differant story.

The Hummer is a Chev Tahoe, which is crap offroad.

As said by Redback, the only thing these have in common with the USA Hummers used by the army is

"HUM"

the ones selling here will all end up with 30inch wheels with rubber band tires on them, 5inch zaust tips, and dropped on their guts used in drive by shootings...

Hopefully they will look more "METAL" than the photos of glistening plastic photos everywhere.
