Hi all one of the 80 series headlights has gone on the blink. Drivers outside light is off, but when I flash lights all four come on. I have wriggled the wiring and nothing. Shut the bonnet and it came on . Lasted a day or two and off again. Any ideas, be nice please.

skinny,
Time for a new globe!
They can be a bit hard to get out and then back in especially the retaining ring that actually holds the globe in place. Be patient and you will be right, or you can just take the headlight surround off and remove the headlight which I found easier.

I had a very similar problem with my 80 series - right front light would go out or be dimmed. The wiring diagram indicated some very convoluted connection, but my back right
parking light was suspect with tarnished terminals - replaced bulb and cleaned up connection and front light never had a problem again. Back light must have been placing some form of resistance on circuit without blowing fuses and enough to cause grief to the headlight
Cheers

If it is a sealed beam light as is fitted to my 1991 80 Series, apart from cleaning up the connections, there's not a lot you can do. New one is about $40 depending on where you
shop.

Time for a new globe ,best to change all 4 at same time and keep the old "good" globes as emergency spares ,you will find that if you only replace the dud globe then it or one of the other globes will blow ,is part of that Bast--d Murphys Law.

Hi All,
Not being an expert in Toyota stuff, or in anything else for that matter, it seems to me that if the light comes on when the headlights are flashed but not otherwise it can't be the globe.
My guess will be a crap earth connection somewhere. But where???????
Happy searching.

Disco,
Outside headlights are high/low beam, inside ones a just high beam.
Low beam filament "fingered" ...

This seems to be a common problem. I was driving up from
Sydney earlier in the year, about to embark on a Fraser trip and had the same problem. The globe was very intermittent, so i know the element was still alive (but in what connection). I replaced the globe and had no further troubles so i can only imagine it was a connection problem. Robnicko said the retainer clip is difficult to put back on, what an understatement!! It was a royal pain in the arse.

You should try it with a second battery fitted!! I tried out a few new words then.
