I am planning on a long trip from
Sydney to
Broome and back across the centre.
As such I am planning on adding a long range feul tank adn will need to put a rear wheel carrier on.
Has anyone had experience with any of the many diferent types out there, I am particly interestd in knowing if the one from TJM or ARB that is not replacing the rear bumper is strong enough ?
Thanks

GEO,FITTED A KAYMAR (FROM ARB) REAR WHEEL CARRIER TO AN 80 SERIES CRUSIER NOT LONG AGO ,STILL RETAINING THE ORIGINAL BUMPER.THERE IS ALOT OF BRACING YOU BOLT IN TO STRENGTHEN THE CARRIER.OVERALL IT WAS EASY TO FIT BUT THERES ALOT MORE "WOBBLE" IN IT THAN
MY HOME MADE TOW BAR MOUNTED WHEEL CARRIER.MUST BE GOOD THOUGH BECAUSE EVERY SECOND CRUSIER HAS THEM FITTED.

I have a Kaymar as
well on my 100 series. Works great and seems reliable. Trailer bearing to swing on might be another spare. If I buy another one though I would ditch the plastic bar and go for a complete replacement. That would give at least the option of adding another spare or a jerry ect.

Mate, you should have bought a GU Nissan!! My Nissan bias showin through! A full Kaymar replacement bumper is the way to go, as it not only gives you an extremely strong mouting point for your spare, it also provides a better departure angle, and being steel and not plastic, can take alot of abuse, and still look straight.
Just my thoughts. Tristjo.

GEO,
I had a Kaymar carrier fitted to my 80 series some 4-5 years ago, since then it's done 60,000km - a lot over very rough terrain and shocking outback roads - and it's still performing faultlessly. No 'wobbles' or flexing obvious.
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend one to anyone.
Steve.
