Some time back, I read an article suggesting that the TDV6 in the Disco 3 was understressed and could be safely upgraded to produce quite a bit more power and torque. Given that is VERY heavy (2.7tonnes), I reckon it could do with a bit of assistance, even though it probably outdoes the LC and Patrol in those areas now, but what of the future?? Maybe put the about to be released TDV8 into the Disco as well as the Rangie.. But price?? Its expensive as a TDV6.

Anyway, I can't find the article anywhere. Anybody else got any suggestions?

Personally i don't understand wanting to upgrade an already powerful car, but if you must then i'd suggest you go to AULRO there are about 5 or 6 guys on here that have TDV6 D3s with offroad mods, one guy in WA has done 2 Comps in his coming first both times.

I will be towing a 23' van weighing a shade over 2 tonnes unladen and thought a bit more torque may help. I have read a few testers suggesting that it iks a bit breathless on hills given the weight of the vehicle itself.

It is only the top of the range V8 HSE that comes in at around 2.6-2.7t the S versions are a few hundred kgs lighter and on about par with other vehicles in the class. I agree with Baz - the car is already one of the most powerful/torquey diesels in its class and will not have a lot of problems towing 2 tonnes - if you need more grunt (wait and test first) then chipping would be the way to go and AULRO is the place to get the answers.
