I am finally in the market for a basic off-road camper trailer for the family, but have a budget of $10,000. I have been to a few 4wd shows recently to get the 'feel' for the market, but like all proffessional salemen, they pitch their units as being the best.
So I turn to you, for 'unbiased' opinions.
I like the 'Red Back' and also the 'Bell Canvas' units, but was wondering what other brands are being used and enjoyed. If you are honest enough (ha ha), pros and cons would also be appreciated.
I don't need a unit that is capable of making it to
Cape York, but must be robust enough to suit 'moderate' off-road use. The basic unit packed inside the trailer, that folds out, is what I am after.
Thanks.

I suppose you would want something manufactured in your state/area so where are you?
other than that we bought a trackabout deluxe tourer and couldn't be happier, brand new and just under 10k. only has a kitchen box but that suits us as we aren't keen on cooking muck on the canvas.
The whole trailer is put together
well with alko rebound springs, greasable shackles and 35mm round axle, AT35 hitch,
water tank etc. etc.
It was a special (someone ordered it and changed their mind) so came with extras like extra foot on the side room, extra windows, extended drawbar. Have just picked up a brake kit for it which includes a 45mm square axle which excites me.
Having just spent four weeks away with it I can tell you it is quick and easy to set up for overnighters as
well as comfortable space wise.
have a look at the site trackabout

I bought a 'Outback" Adventurer 2004 model. Although it is just over the $10000 new, it is a reasonably heavy duty trailer that is
well made and the build quality could not be faulted. The guy who builds them also as a fleet of hire trailers and has been doing this for a number of years so the trailer had been developed over this time. Standard with this model is 45mm axle, tailgate mounted kitchen with water and gas stove, stoneguard, front mounted toolbox, jerry can holders, gas bottle holders, 9ft tent area, awning over the rear. I have added a 12volt power system with fluro lights that is simple and works
well and charges off the dual battery while on the move. It is good for at least 4 days of power for the fluro lights.
The tent is quick easy to erect and there are no poles needed unless you need to put the awning up. I just did a 4 week trip to the Cape and not once did I have to hammer any pegs into the ground on the tent section. The trailer handled the conditions
well and came through without any damage beside stone chips.
I am about to advertise it in the trader for around $8000 so if you are in QLD it is worth a look if it suits your needs and budget. quinnyandmegan@optusnet.com.au
