Ever since the new changes on Exploroz have come into place, I have had a problem with my page view being too wide to view all at once.

I have sent off two messages to the managers for assistance without any feedback being received. Can anyone help me to fix this setting so that I can enjoy reading all on one page.

Thanks in advance.

You need to reset the screen resolution to something like 1024x768. This is the only forum i have problems with using 800x600.

Perhaps the moderators are not interested.

I too have the same difficulties as you. Changing it would be easy as the other poster has said. I will not do this as Exploroz is only one site that I visit out of quite a few. I'm not going to bother to change my settings every time I visit - I will have to just scroll across I guess.

Interesting though - is that I never scroll as far as the adverts on the right which surely the site owners would like all to view. It's hard enough viewing the forum let alone scrolling even further to few the ads.

Looking for adventure.
In whatever comes our way.

Hi all I got the same prob as you guys. I have been away from the forum for a while and was wondering what had happened. I also only scroll across enough to read the post, but it is very annoying having to centralise the page after every 'click'.
Regards Ken.

Patrick,

We answer all emails within 24 hours and I have looked for emails from yourself and cannot find any. We have had many enquires on this topic and there are many things being worked on in this regard. There is no reason you would not have been replied to as we have sent several emails as replies to this issue.

Firstly you can simply change the screen resolution to 1024x768 this became the defacto Internet standard about 18 months ago and most sites have migrated to this setting. Simply go Start - Control panel - Display - then select Settings. Once you are on this screen move the slider control from 800x600 to 1024x768 this will fix the size of the screen not only for ExplorOz but a vast majority of other sites that you most likely visit. Coupled with the font size adjuster tool we just installed you should find the abilty to increase the font and the higher resolution will only improve your gereral internet experience.

Secondly, I am looking to see if I can support an 800x600 fall back - this appears possible however I have not been able to dedicate enought time to test it and write the updated support for this size. Most of the feedback we have seen indicates a problem with the amount of blank space in the LHS and RHS margins - ie: screen resolution of higher than 1024x768 in fact we have had feedback from people using 1920x1024 (widescreen format) so it is very difficult to find a happy medium. However I am working on it.

I do take offensive that we have not responded to emailed enquires as this would seriously breech the terms of service we have in place with out staff in the office, and my investigations of the emails logs do not support this. So please email me directly any comments about the process and any lack of response as reading it in the forum ticks me off.

Ok for some progress - I have spent the last few hours working to try to make a build of ExplorOz that supports 800x600. It is now installed and is working - I have set my screen to 800x600 and am using the system. It is not 100% right on every page however the majority of pages are working correctly. The ones that are not 100% are fine to read and use - these will get resolved as we migrate the remaining pages of the site to the new format.

So hopefully those with the lesser resolution of 800x600 will now work fine, however the best resolution for ExplorOz and the bulk of Internet sites is 1024x768.

Enjoy and please report any issues - this has been a major change to the code that controls the site with minimal testing due to the late hour I installed it. Take care.

PS: New post will be written to highlight this update.

there is an old saying "if it aint broke dont fix it"

since the upgrade, there has not been a problem for the majority of uses. if your running old technology expect poor returns

Patrick,

I have read the MM and replied including the three response emails sent by myself and Jackie - All these response were sent within 1 hour of us receiving your original feedback enquires, please check your spam or junk boxes just in case.

No 1. - I thought most people used 1024x768 as this became the de facto standard about 18 months ago (In fact most of the large media - ninemsn, yahoo7 etc... use 1024x768). It is apparent that there are still a number of people using 800x600 due to eye sight issues etc. I have heard the feedback - mostly people have changed screen res to 1024x768 or higher however 4 hours work from my end has given me the ability to run 800x600 however it does slightly limit our future developments. We will work through this and move forward, I am looking to start updates to support widescreen and various other formats using the information I learnt building the 800x600 version.

My comments are given for information only:-

One of the PC's that I use is a Notebook with a screen resolution of 1680 x 1050 (Widescreen format) and this does not allow the best use of the new ExplorOz formatting. There is much "wasted whitespace" on either side of the screen.

Also on the Widescreen format, no separation line appears between the "Home" and "Forum" buttons at the top of the screen.

However, the more important "loss" from the old format is in the lack of word wrapping when the "full screen mode" is reduced. Now, if the display is reduced at all, you need to scroll across via the sliders which is a bummer.

All in all though, I can live with it.

Hi Sand Man,

I'm using 1680x1050 and the problem you note with the separation line does not appear on my system. Perhaps it is fixed with the 800x600 fixes, or maybe the video driver in the laptop needs an update.

As you say, there is a lot of white space in widescreen, but this will be an issue for 10 years or longer. Just like TV trying to go 16:9 will be an issue for 10 years or more while there are 4:3 screens in use.

I'm glad I've got thie wide screen problem rather than the 800x600 problem !!
