Hi there,

I use a 'stable table' on my knees. I put the laptop into hibernate when not in use, that way it fires up quickly when needed. The GPS (Garmin 126) runs all the time so the lappy is only needed occasionally. When not in use it is shoved down next to the seat. I also use a Kerio 12v power supply.

Mike.

Not a laptop but I have just installed a rear view monitor. I made ,out of MDF a section that fits in the just behind the and storage box. It takes a bit of doing as all the angles in the recess are different. This gismo supports the monitor and is fully adjustable for most angels. I'm shore that the idea could be adapted to take a small laptop screen.

I had mine sit on a carpeted platform between the two front seats when I had the Prado. I didn't want to have it in the way of everything else. Just meant that you couldn't really use it while driving, which is probably a good thing.

Now I use a tablet PC as a console lid on the truck - best setup I've had.

The most practical option is a "RAM Mount" solution.
GPSOZ are Australian agents and their Web site shows many solutions, or you can select the US RAM Mount Web site, choose a specific product and GPSOZ will give you the cost in Australian dollars and get it in for you if they don't have stock.

GPSOZ - RAM Mounts

I was originally interested in a "VersaTrue Carmount" solution but the cost to purchase and import from the US blew the cost out of the water.

My solution (pictured below) uses a Versatrue brand clamping solution coupled with a RAM Mount Laptop "Tough Tray". I chose my specific solution as there was no drilling involved. The clamp style base fixes to the Grab Handle on the centre console.

RAM have similar clamping solutions to choose from, or a three leg solution that fixes to the floor and if you cannot select a solution by visiting the GPSOZ web site, I'm sure a phone call to them would get you further help.

Aknot,

I was thinking of doing the same thing so that i could have a moving map.

The problems that I came across is that they are intrusive into the cabin, the lap top will get dust into the workings, and if a disk has to be run while the vehicle is on the move over rough roads it does not do the laptop much good.

I went for a GPS with the moving maps. A lot smaller and can handle the extremes of the vehicle better. I still have the laptop in the vehicle but packed away out of the dust and only get it out when required.

Try this link to 4WD Developments

I think they are in WA. I know a mate with one in an 80 series that they are happy with.
