Any knowledge please of
free camping areas between
Chinchilla and
Windorah, Q'ld.
I could only find two,
Cooper Creek at
Windorah and
Neil Turner Weir,
Mitchell. If you
know of others, would appreciate info even if they are off the main highway.
cheers

There are lots of gravel dumps and or old bits of road cut off by new roads which make good camps.
Places on the way out to
Quilpie include the rivers like the Ward and Paroo and just on the side of the road.

I know they are not free, but
Windorah and
Quilpie have council caravan/
camping grounds. Found them quite cheap, and good amenities.
We usually save up the
free camping for further out west. :-)
Or on the way back to Brisy after a few weeks we treat ourselves.

Hi Oldplodder,
yes we will using both those caravan parks on the next trip. Vic.net gave them a good
rating. It's just good to leave the luxuries behind now and then (not meaning the beer fridge of course)

Hi T-Ribby.
I stayed at
Neil Turner Weir in july 2005.
A very tidy
camp spot.

Thanks for that Vince, I couldn't find out a lot about
the spot or photos, but I'll keep looking.
We'll be stopping there on the way back from
Birdsville.

Isn't
Chinchilla a nice spot? They do a real CWA morning & afternoon tea at the
Visitor centre too....The guy who was running the Van
park was a bit like the real Basil Fawlty though...We didn't see one white rabbit while we were there....Ohhhhhhhhhh
Free camping spots
well the Van
park @ Mitchel is just about free $11 for 3 nights with quite good facilities just across the river from the thermal Pool which is
well worth a visit for it's restorative powers....

t ribby
for a comprehensive list of free (legal)
camp spots you cant beat camps Australia wide#3, ive recommended it to many people,i think any one who loves travelling and camping is mad not to have one, i travelled from
Darwin to
Perth and paid for 3 nights out of the fourteen days travelling. the book give you all the info that you could possibly need like if its scenic, how many night you can stay, phone numbers of the authority's(if any) of the areas and a whole lot more. They have a web site too, i think you can order the book there , if not you can search for whatever sites you want
