Everyone raves about Cobb Ovens. How long from lighting the fuel does it take before you can put the roast on?

G,day Pajeroman,
Just wait until the heat beads turn to nearly all white. Usually about 20-25 minutes if you use the best quality ones.
Enjoy

20 minutes for heat beads, then 2 hours for a no 18 chicken with vegs, sh:t it tastes good too. Make sure you put the herbs and red wine in the moat to really make the mouth
water hahaha.
Cheers Bruce

Yep,
About 20 minutes will see the heat beads burning nicely.
Here's a little tip for you to try.
Take the wire firebox out of the cobb and place it on a firm non burnable surface.
(I use a cast iron skillet)
If necessary, pour a little metho over the beads and ignite. This will allow good air circulation around the beads, but shelter from strong windy conditions.
After the beads are burning
well, place the loaded firebox back into the Cobb with a long handled pair of tongs.
A joint or roll of lamb, beef, or pork will take about 1 1/2 hours and I put the spuds & carrots in the moat at the same time.
The same method with more heat beads can be employed for a
camp oven when you haven't got (or can't use) a
camp fire.

Make sure you use genuine "heat beads" (registered). The cheaper ones ( BBQ fuel?) are woftams & results in P*** poor performance.

ditched the Cobb in frustration and bought Weber BabyQ instant and works straight away and much more uses than Cobb.
