I have been warned to stay away from the '
toilet roll' style of element used in bypass oil filters. But they all seem to have these type of filters. The Frantz, filtertechnology both do.
What is wrong with them and why would people be warning me away from them? I'm thinking that the Frantz is a respected filter and if they use
toilet rolls then they must be OK. What other type of elements are there?
I was all ready to get one fitted in
Adelaide when i realised they used these filters and remembered the warnings.
Anybody have any thoughts please?

Laughable- I think Truckster may have hit the nail on the head.
I've been using Frantz filters for 35 years with absolutely outstanding results.
(I use them on oil AND diesel fuel.)
Cheers

Frantz and Filter Technology are as good as anything on the market, both roll type filters. You cant use
toilet rolls in them as they are not wound tight enough. Also the proper filters are not bio degradable and
toilet rolls are for obvious reasons. In a petrol engine, the oil stays the same honey colour as new, so it proves the system works, but diesel oil still discolours but is still clean, it takes on the colour from the carbon because it is smaller than a micron or so ,,, Michael

Someone on this
forum warned me about them. They must have been in the minority.
What system do you have Michael? 1 or 2 roll filter and what engine is it for? Filtertechnology recomended the fmo1, single roll filter for the 10 litre sump for my GQ 4.2 diesel. How long does your oil last for?
Thanks

Using their synthetic oil and filtration system, Amsoil maintain that there is no reason why you shouldn't get at least 80,000klm (50,000
miles is their figure; being yanks) from your oil.
I don't know what the dunny-roll brigade recommend;-))
I don't blindly trust the oil etc.......I send a sample away to Castrol for analysing every 10,000klm or so, just to be on the safe side.

Barnesy!! I use a car unit, the small unit and change it every 3000ks, i cant find the room in the 4.2 Patrol so as to stand it upright. I used to be an agent for Filter technology, I have a Fmo1, Fmo2, fmo3, all new old stock in perfect condition so if you can fit The Fmo1, maybe we can do something. The fmo1 is mounted to a demo unit but its never had oil in it. To Mal, you can use a tee piece on the oil pressure sender or there are various plugs in diesel engines that go straight to the galleries in the block, both pressure and return. Filter tech have a screw in plug thing that goes into the sump direct but unless you know the layout of the sump, their are better options.. Michael

Michael from Moss Vale, I hope you
check your email so you get this. You said you have a fmo1 for sale, how much do you want for it? Does it come with high pressure hoses and other fitting gear? Where is your unit plugged in to your vehicle? The mob at filter tech in
Adelaide plumb one hose (in a 4.2 diesel GU) behind the alternator and the other one in the oil filler cap. Would it be able to be posted to SA you think?
Thanks

Check out www.amsoil.com for an alternative option. There is a dealer in
Adelaide; Bruce on 08 8388 5294.
I have interest in the product or the supplier other than to say I am VERY satisfied with the quality of the oil and the bypass filter arrangement I have fitted to the Patrol. The filter 'type' is a typical spin-on style......I don't know anything about the
toilet roll type.

Barnsey, have a look at post no`s 15993, 16027,17991, 18255, 31757.
Toilet paper is soluble . Therefore it will not make an effective filter medium. Caveat emptor. It`s your money, not
mine. They don`t get
mine. Regards G.T.
