After going to the 4 w.d. Caravan and Camping show in Perth it looks as though Ihave at last decided on a camper trailer.Iam just about to settle on the Pioneer Argysle S.E. Offroad camper.Has anyone had experience with or owned one that could let me know of any problems or maybe in optional items that may be worth putting on while it is being built(2 months). It seems VERY similar to the Kimberly Camper but a fair bit lighter which appealed to me.

And a fair bit cheaper too!

Rambler, you are a bloody mongrel because you are just deliberately teasing me:-)

Good luck on your chosen purchase.
(It's on my short list as an upgrade one day)

Good luck on the purchase and hope it all works out for you. I have been led to believe that they are a very good camper and have pretty much followed the mould of the Kimberley Kamper. Yes, they are a little lighter and the main reason is the Draw bar size. Horses for courses but I chose the Kimberley though I'm sure the Pioneer will not let you down and will make your camping trips most enjoyable.....

Have owned an Onyx for almost 18 months.

Home about 3 weeks from living in it for 6 months. Good camper and pretty simple to put up and down. Generally do this by meself.

Wise choice and happy camping,

We have a KK, but our friends have just taken delivery ( yesterday ) of a Pioneer argysle SE, so can't tell you yet of any probs with them?

I found the weights to be very similar ? ( Argle SE compared to a KK classic ) Extra drawbar size means piece of mind when towing over tough terrain ??

Extras I would consider would be the queen bed ( definately ), a proper 3 stage batt charger ( doesn't have to be theirs ), vent for a fridge ( if your gonna use one ), and the slide out pantry ( where else you gonna put all your food and utensils )

They are a good copy of a KK, but not in the same class when it comes to quality and thats why they are cheaper, but still a good camper ( not intending to bag them at all )

Rambler,
I have a a Pioneer Argyle with the gulwing box's which is the same SE and love it, the only problem I have had with mine is the brake lines do need to be covered with better hose than they use as on last trip to Birdsville the rocks eventually wore them through. I have heater hose covering them now and that has fixed the problem.
You will love the camper.
Cheers

Well done Rambler.
We bought an Argyle around 6 months ago and the few times we've used it have been really pleased.
Ours hasn't got the gullwing box but we've found plenty of storage for food, fridge items go in the 60ltr Engel and other stuff can be kept in storage boxes in the back of the Landie.
No problems worth mentioning, tap was noisy and canvas a bit baggy in one area, but they've been fixed.
Good people to deal with.
Happy travels.
Alan H.

Recently hired a Pioneer Prospector 2 I think it was. A couple of minor annoying issues were: No switch to turn 12 v off to pressure pump so when tank gets low pressure pump cuts in and out or runs until you re-fill water tank ( or pump burns out:-( and if tap is dripping water pump starts and stops all night which just happens to be under your head where you are sleeping with a sheet of half inch ply between your head and the pump. Secondly water tank was a real pain to fill due to the convoluted hose being too small in diameter and it does a 90 degree turn just behind the filler cap and also for some unknown reason they have fitted a orifice with a half inch hole in it just inside the filler neck so you really have to trickle the water in slowly (the 20l container gets heavy) and even when it overflows you are never quite sure if it is full and for the first 10 overflows it probably isn't. Also the water tap if you turn it off too tight it flys apart with springs and washers going in all directions. Pull out cooking area need a prop under the free end to stop it sagging. Gas stove wind deflectors are useless and too small to be effective causing waste of gas. With the awning up it is very hard to access that side front storage box because the stone guard is in the way so you have to climb up on the 'A' frame to access the bottom of the box. I would definitely go leaf spring suspension and not trailing arm. Too many failures. Did you look at the Adventure Camper, they are the pick of the lot in my opinion.

Blown4by,
Thanks for the feedback and I will check on the filling and pump problems although the Argysle may be different as the Prospector is the very basic model. The one I am ordering will have 2 seperate 60 ltr. tanks with seperate fillers and pumps.Haven't heard of any problems with the independent suspension. The storage box won't be an issue as there is also a large gullwing box accessable from both sides.Idid look at the Adventure camper but did not like the idea of putting up and taking down poles in the sleeping area. Also Idon't need half the trailer to be a kitchen and the price was not competitive.

Rambler was it the Pioneer camper display that had the video running of the guy setting up the camper in 29 seconds? Can't rememeber but I liked the look of the Pioneer a good option to the KK.

Duncan, I didn't see the video but the set up for sleeping would be less than 3 mins.Takes a bit more time to put up the awning but still very quick and easy.Iam looking forward to picking up mine as I paid the deposit yesterday and it should be ready by end Jan.
